11 Things You Should Do In Grand Haven, Michigan
Jacqueline Rondeau

The first time I visited Grand Haven was the summer of 2014. My sister, friends and I were out of school and already bored with the lack of things to keep us entertained. We decided we wanted to go somewhere different, even if just for the day, and experience something that we weren't accustomed to.

Something refreshing.

Maybe just a little adventure?

So naturally, as a Millennial, I took to Google to do some research.

I think the first thing I searched was "beach towns in Michigan," and Grand Haven was one of the first things to come up. Little did I know how magnificent it would be. We packed up the car and headed out west to experience some wonder. Two years later and here I am, in Grand Haven once again, but this time on vacation.

1. Walk out on the Pier

A fabulously beautiful pier and lighthouse, the experience of walking out to the end of the pier is one I repeat every time I visit the Grand Haven State Park.

2. Go to Porto Bello

Live music and delicious Italian food, Porto Bello is something that everyone who visits Grand Haven should experience once. Romantic and a taste sensation, Porto Bello is magnificent.

3. Eat breakfast at the Morning Star Cafe

A cozy, small and local breakfast hotspot, the Morning Star Cafe is a quaint little business that decorates it's walls with broken plates. Along with its many different coffee flavors, the Morning Star Cafe offers many syrup options when it comes to what to put on your oatcakes.

4. The Musical Fountain

Although the Musical Fountain's prime time is in August, it's still beautiful when it lights up at night. Opening day this year is May 6, 2016. The fountain plays music as well as sets the night aglow.

5. Visit Main Street

Main street is full of small shops, both with big names and small mom and pops type stores. Shopping is always a blast, especially when it's right by the water.

6. Visit the Windmill Island Gardens

If you're looking to check out the beautiful tulips of Holland Windmill Island Gardens is where it's at.

7. The Grill Room at The Kirby House

If steak is something you're craving in Grand Haven, head to The Grill Room at The Kirby House to experience some mouth watering sensations. A bar and romantic restaurant in one, The Grill Room is positively wonderful.

8. Check out local antique shops

Take a drive down 31 to visit some interesting and local antique shops. You never know what you're going to find.

9. Walk down the board walk

The boardwalk, which offers a spectacular visual of the pier and many of Grand Haven's other assets is gorgeous at both sunrise and sunset.

10. Stay at the Bluewater Inn

BlueWater Inn is located right across from the Grand Haven State Park, giving all of its guests a beautiful view of Lake Michigan.

11. Visit Floto's Gift's

If you're looking for sweaters, t-shirts or any other Grand Haven apparel, head to Floto's. They have everything!

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
