New England during the fall season is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places to be. Now that winter is rolling around the corner and the fall foliage will soon be blanketed in snow, we need fun activities to keep us occupied and to keep us in the holiday spirit this winter! Some of these ideas are a tradition for most, but some are new and fun ways to enjoy the upcoming holiday season.

1. Boston Ballet's "The Nutcracker"


The Nutcracker is a staple for every holiday season. This is the perfect way for the family to come together and enjoy a night out immersing themselves in a ballet depicting a classic winter and holiday storyline.

2. Boston Common Tree Lighting

Boston's 75th annual tree lighting will take place on December 1st in the Boston Commons and will be followed by the entire park being lit up for the holidays!

3. Zoo Lights

Take your family and friends to the New England Zoo to enjoy the annual zoo lights where there are plenty of activities for people of all ages to enjoy!

4. Holiday Pops

Like The Nutcracker, the Holiday Pops are a staple show that everyone must see during the holidays! Until the end of December, get your holiday music fix by seeing these incredible performers.

5. Frog Pond Ice Skating

Boston Common's Frog Pond is the perfect place to go ice skating during the winter months. You can't go through winter in Boston without taking a day or a night to experience ice skating!

6. Ski Down Beacon Hill


Boston is notorious for its big snowstorms causing snow days in schools and businesses to close. The first big snowstorm this season, grab your skis or snowboard and ride down Beacon Hill. This is an uncommon way to enjoy the snowy months, but you definitely won't be the only one out there!

7. First Night Boston

Ring in the new year at the First Night Boston event. There will be food, performers, fireworks and more. This city-wide event is the perfect way to end one year and begin another!

8. Tour Newport Mansions

Tour the mansions in Newport, Rhode Island and enjoy the lavish holiday decorations as well as the gorgeous views!

9. Faneuil Hall Tour

This free tour allows you to immerse yourself in Boston history while simultaneously enjoying the beautiful Faneuil Hall, which lights up during the holiday season.

10. Santa Speedo Run

This annual run will take place on December 10th down Newbury Street to raise money for the Play Ball Foundation. If you want to bring some extra holiday cheer to your weekend, head down to Newbury to either watch or participate!

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
