There is absolutely nothing I hate more than hearing someone call Colby-Sawyer a boring school. Colby-Sawyer and the town of New London have far more to offer than what appears to be on the surface. From hiking to swimming and everything in between, there are so many different things to do at school instead of being "bored". This one is for both the incoming freshman and the returning upperclassmen as a reminder that you don't have to be bored in New London. Here is a list of the top 10 things to do if you're bored at CSC.
1. Go To Bucklin
No matter the season or weather, Bucklin Beach is a great place to go after a long day of classes. It's the perfect place to watch the sunset, go for a swim or play games if you're bored. There's always people from Colby-Sawyer there hanging out, so you're destined to run into a familiar face.
2. Climb Kearsarge
There are tons of hiking trails in and around New London but all Colby-Sawyer students know that climbing Kearsarge is the best way to get the best view and have the best time. It's a perfect hike for beginners, but still fun if you're an experienced hiker. It's great day or night, fall or winter. So grab a group of friends, drive to Kearsarge and hike up the mountain.
3. Find The Best Nachos
My Friends and I have been on the hunt for the greatest nachos in the New London area. We are still divided on if PC's or The Goose has the better nachos. There is no denying that everyone loves nachos, everyone at college is always hungry and everyone's looking for an excuse to get out of their dorm room. This is a great way to find out which restaurant you like the best while eating some great food.
4. Take A Walk To Dunkin' Donuts
We are blessed that we have dunks within a mile of campus. I mean granted, we're not as blessed as people who has dunks on their campus but still. There's nothing better than a nice coffee after class. Grab a friend or roommate and take a walk downtown.
5. Watch Intramural Sports
My friends and me are hands down the biggest intramural fans at Colby-Sawyer. There is nothing more fun than cheering on your friends playing a game of floor hockey. If you're not into watching sports, then start a team and play a sport! It's so easy to start an intramural team and we have everything from floor hockey to basketball. This is a great way to get involved and make friends.
6. Hang Out On Burpee Beach
If you're sitting in your dorm room bored on a hot sunny day, then get up and go outside to the quad. There's always people there doing things and playing games and almost everyone is willing to let you join. If you're not into games, then bring your homework and a blanket outside and hang out on the beach with everyone else.
7. Take A Day Trip
If it's a Saturday and you're bored, then grab a group of friends and take a road trip to somewhere around us. We're only two hours from Boston and two hours from Burlington. We're also 45 minutes away from Concord and one hour away from Manchester and Nashua. There's plenty of things to do in all of those towns and it's a great way to spend the day if you have nothing else going on.
8. Walk The Bog
The bog is another trail in New London that's easy, accessible and fun! If you're bored after class or bored on the weekend, then head to the bog and walk the trail. Don't know where it is? It's down past Hannafords on the left. There's almost always other cars parked in front of the entrance, so it's an easy find.
9. Head To Clarks Lookout
Clarks Lookout is a great place with a great view. There's a small hike to get to the top and once you do, the view is amazing. It's on Little Lake Sunapee and you can see all different mountains. It's a great place to go no matter the weather.
10. Wednesdays On The Quad
Every Wednesday in the fall and spring Colby-Sawyer brings in a band and food trucks for us to enjoy. A lot of people don't take advantage of this awesome privilege that we're given. Not only should you attend Wednesdays On The Quad, you should attend a lot of school run events. They're a great way to meet new people and have fun if you're bored.
