Classes are ending soon, but we're all going a bit stir crazy in these last couple weeks. Some of us are pounding back coffee and hiding out in the library for half of the day, but even in these last weeks of chaos we need a little break from studying. If you're stuck in a small town, here's a few ideas on what to do to get off campus, even for just a little while.

1. Go to the park

You’re never really too old to go to the park. Swings are always fun, and if you bring friends you can have a picnic or barbecue. Maybe the park even has a beach, or you can get a cheap swimming pool to bring (the pool could even be used on campus for warm days).

2. Visit the local library

Unlike your school library, there is probably some interesting/fun books you would actually enjoy reading.

3. Find a poetry studio that lets you paint pottery

You can paint your own mugs, plates, bowls, whatever they got.

4. Go downtown

Just cause you may be in a small town, doesn’t mean there aren’t some interesting shops nearby. You might even fall in love with something from a thrift shop, and hey what college student doesn’t love cheap things?

5. Go for a walk

You never know what you can find just off campus if you actually go look. Just off our campus is a building called the Arts Castle that offers art classes. Also it actually looks like a castle. Or maybe you’ll even find a chill new bar or something.

6. Go bowling

It’s probably been years since you did this last anyways, and the alley will probably be playing the same music they were back when you were in middle school.

7. Go see bands perform at local bars/coffee shops

Even if they’re really obscure, they could be your new favorite. This can be a fun time and I great way to hear some new music.

8. Volunteer

Help out the local community. Volunteer for programs that help the local homeless community, the children or even the animal community.

9. Check out the local art scene

Visit an art gallery opening and see art created by the locals.

10. Get a cheap blow up mattress or a water tube and chill in a lake

This one is pretty self explanatory and with a group of people (or alone) can be an awesome time.

From sea to shining sea, the United States was uniquely positioned for an incredible Aurora Borealis display on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024, going into Friday, Oct. 11.

It was the second time this year after an historic geomagnetic storm in May 2024. Those Northern Lights were visible in Europe and North America, just like this latest rendition.

To My Loving Boyfriend,

  • Thank you for all that you do for me
  • Thank you for working through disagreements with me
  • Thank you for always supporting me
  • I appreciate you more than words can express
  • You have helped me grow and become a better person
  • I can't wait to see where life takes us next
  • I promise to cherish every moment with you
  • Thank you for being my best friend and confidante
  • I love you and everything you do

To start off, here's something I don't say nearly enough: thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You do so much for me that I can't even put into words how much I appreciate everything you do - and have done - for me over the course of our relationship so far. While every couple has their fair share of tiffs and disagreements, thank you for getting through all of them with me and making us a better couple at the other end. With any argument, we don't just throw in the towel and say we're done, but we work towards a solution that puts us in a greater place each day. Thank you for always working with me and never giving up on us.

Because no one ever really leaves.

Ah, yes, good old Hauppauge. We are that town in the dead center of Long Island that barely anyone knows how to pronounce unless they're from the town itself or live in a nearby area. Hauppauge is home to people of all kinds. We always have new families joining the community but honestly, the majority of the town is filled with people who never leave (high school alumni) and elders who have raised their kids here. Around the town, there are some just some landmarks and places that only the people of Hauppauge will ever understand the importance or even the annoyance of.

1. It's easy to be fooled by shiny things.

Tamatoa created a liar filled with shiny things simply for the purpose of tricking fish to enter and become his food. He too experiences a lesson in how easy it is to be tricked by shiny things when Moana distracts him by covering herself in glowing algae so Maui can grab his hook.
