With the holiday season just around the corner, many of us are seeking out that special gift for the college students in our lives. Luckily, there's a handful of things that are universal to the college experience. Below is a list of the top 10 things to give a college student this year:

1. Money

Tuition, books, food, oh my. Money is the golden ticket for college students. It may not seem like much, but it honestly is the best thing you could give a student. You never know what expenses may come up as a college student: additional class requirements, midnight Taco Bell runs, and coffee breaks. Nothing is better than good, old-fashioned money.

2. Gift Cards

So this is an equivalent to money, but in some ways, it's better. Give them a gift card for someplace they wouldn't take themselves otherwise, such as Texas Roadhouse, Belk or Victoria's Secret. It's always nice to be able to afford what you normally can't.

3. Snacks

What's better than food? Free food. Your students will greatly appreciate a box of their favorite snacks, especially if you have it sent to them as a care package. Your snacks will help them through the 2 a.m. munchies and the 11-hour study sessions.

4. New Book-bag

In all reality, after the semester, and definitely by the end of the year, the book bag is kind of ratty and in need of some TLC. Mine personally made it through the first semester before the bottom started to get torn and thin, but I've had to alternate between two different bags to keep them from totally falling apart. Chances are, your college student is in the same boat.

5. Amazon Fire Stick/Chromecast/ Roku Stick

By far my favorite thing in my room is my TV now that I can have Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, Spotify, etc. all in one place without having to turn on my Xbox and my TV and continually sign in. I love being able to cast my YouTube from my laptop to my TV for my roommates to be able to see.

6. Amazon Prime Membership

Free music, movies and shows, books, photo storage, 2-day shipping, and discounted prices on over half the merchandise on Amazon... yes please! For $100 (or less if you split it with others), get your student all of the above and more to last them the year.

7. Rapid-Charging Block

Nothing is worse than having to wait to 3-5 hours for your phone to come to a full charge, especially when you're at 15 percent and have class in 45 minutes. Buy your college student a fast-charging block to help them charge up to be able to waste their day away on Instagram and Snapchat.

8. Coffee/Energy

Energy is something every college student needs at some point or another. This is a classic that never fails or disappoints.

9. Alcohol

Let's be honest. College students are broke, but college students also want to go out and party, which is typically accompanied by alcohol. Now not every college student wants alcohol, but if you're feeling extra nice this year, give your college student a little bit.

10. Cable Protector

This is kind of a new one that I found here, but it goes around the end of a phone charger, preventing it from becoming frayed and kinked.

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
