1. Waking Up Every Day

Too often do we take for granted the simple fact that we have the ability to wake up each day. God loves us enough to see us through the night.

2. Family

Because where would we be without them? These upcoming holidays are usually the only excuses some of us get together. Which is sad. But, take the time to tell your family how much you truly love them. Be thankful that they are here to celebrate with you, even if your Aunt Debbie dries out the stuffing, and Uncle Bob gets a little too drunk. Again.

3. Friends

Tell these wonderful people how much they really mean to you. They put up with it all. From those wine-drunk nights to the sobbing sorrows of how much you suck at college, they hear it all. Plus, they don’t judge you when you eat a whole pizza by yourself.

4. Nagging Parents

They mean well. That’s all I have to say about that. But really, they just want to see us succeed. The older I get, the more I realize this. It’s their weird way of telling us that they care about us.

5. Coffee

Without this beautiful morning, mid afternoon, and sometimes 1 a.m., cup of joe, my life would be in shambles.

6. Pizza

I am so thankful for pizza because if it wasn’t a thing, I wouldn’t eat 82 percent of the time. And I would be skinny. Maybe I’m not thankful for pizza? No, I’m just kidding. Still love it.

7. Education

As much as we complain about it, and as hard as it can be, the fact that we are able to learn and expand our knowledge is something amazing. Many, many, MANY people do not have this opportunity, and we should be so very thankful for it.

8. Indoor Plumbing

There’s a reason we don’t have the Black Plague. Before indoor plumbing, people would throw their waste into the streets. I don’t know if they thought the poop fairies would just come and do away with it, but the build up caused disease and death. Both of which we still have today, but thankfully it is not from poopy streets.

9. Significant Others

Be thankful for the one person you can always count on. They have seen you at your worst, and your best, and still choose you every day.

10. Yourself

We do not give ourselves enough credit. Be thankful for this beautiful life you are living. And be thankful for what you are now, and what you want to be tomorrow.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
