It's as awesome as it seems.

Long Island is famous for its incredible summers. People from all over the world come to enjoy everything that Long Island offers from May to August. And trust me, it is definitely worth the hype.

1. Ralph's

The day Ralph’s opens in the spring is like Christmas morning for Long Islanders. Ralph’s Italian Ices are a key part of our summer experience. All of us have our own flavor of preference. Only amateurs get covers for their cups of ices—because we all know we get more ice without a cover.

2. South Shore Beaches

Beach days are the best days for Long Islanders. We spend our weekends packing into our jeeps and heading down to the south shore to enjoy the sun, sand and salt water with friends.

3. Visiting the Hamptons/Montauk

Whether you know a friend who has a house, you have a house, or you go and stay at a motel, every Long Islander makes the trek out to the Hamptons at some point during the summer. The towns are perfect for shopping and the restaurants offer the best food options after a long day at the beach.

4. Jones Beach Concerts

Nothing is better than going to an outdoor concert with your favorite artist playing on a warm summer night. You may go to see Jimmy Buffett, or you may go for Wiz Khalifa, but whomever you go to see, you know you will have an amazing time.

5. Splish Splash

Long Island’s very own waterpark out in Riverhead is a fun place to spend a Saturday during the summer. If you're not getting a wedgie on a slide, you’re eating Dippin’ Dots with your friends. Nothing can compare.

6. Visiting NYC

There is so much to do in New York City during the summer. The summer is a great time to go to Central Park or the Highline to enjoy the summer sun. It is a lot more enjoyable to walk around the city during the summer months rather than freezing during the winter.

7. Barbecues

I swear that over the summer I eat more hot dogs and hamburgers than any person would like to honestly admit. Barbecues are a great opportunity to have family and friends over and enjoy good company and good weather.

8. Boating

One of the perks of living on Long Island is the easy access to water. Boats are a central park of Long Islanders’ summer experience. Maybe it’s your boat, or maybe it’s your friend’s boat, but it is important that you know someone with a boat.

9. Movies on a rainy day

New York is not always blessed with sunny days. So when the rainy days roll around, Long Islanders head for the movie theater. With so many summer movies to choose from, we are left scavenging through our wallets to keep coming back. Not to mention that Finding Dory is available in 3D. And Broadway has chairs that are like couches.

10. Golfing (Mini or regular)

Long Islanders love to golf. At their country clubs, or at their local driving ranges, we all suddenly become golfers over the summer time. Us amateurs like to stick to mini-golf though, and thankfully we have Bayville Adventure Park to give us that and water bumper cars.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
