10 Things That Happen When You Travel With Your Parents

I’ve traveled a lot with my parents over the years. Whether it be to different towns for my brother’s hockey tournaments, camping trips, college visits or just our yearly vacation to Florida, mom and dad make it fun to travel with. Traveling many hours with your parents sometimes can test your patience but it does make for a great story to tell!

1. We always leave the house later than we said because dad likes to get things ready last minute.

2. When we’re finally on the road we somehow always get lost and dad has to take out a map.

No really an actual map not a GPS. Come on dad it's 2016.

3. After getting to use the aux cord to listen to your music mom and dad always get to play their songs from the 80’s.

Keep in mind that mom plays the air guitar while dad sings Sweet Child of Mine.

4. We have to stop and get gas 20 minutes into the trip.

5. Mom and dad always make sure we have a cooler with drinks and a snack bag so we don’t have to stop every hour or so.

It’s actually a good idea and I know when I’m a mom I’ll do the same thing.

6. Dad’s road rage is probably the most exciting of the whole trip.

Those of you who know me, that’s who I get it from.

7. There’s at least one pep talk or heart to heart on our trips.

8. Mom and dad always referred to our travel time in increments of our favorite childhood show.

"Two and a half Rugrat shows to go!" Which turns out to be an hour and a half.

9. We make at least one U-turn along the way.

10. Even though the arrival time says 1:00 PM we really arrive at 3:00 PM.

All of these things make our trips interesting and memorable for sure. Not every trip or vacation you go on will be smooth sailing but those are the things that make for a great story. I may be 20 years old but I still love riding in the back seat sharing stories with my parents and playing I Spy on our long trips. Next time you go on a trip with your parents pay close attention to the things that make your family traveling unique. Happy travels!

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
