Your first year of college is filled with new experiences. There are new people around you at all times, sometimes these people turn out to be wonderful new friends, and sometimes there are people you wish could have stayed strangers. Most of the time, you will have a roommate your first year away, and if you’re lucky, this person will become one of the most important people in your life. Here are ten things that happen when you have an amazing roommate your freshman year.

1. You always have someone to talk to.

2. You have someone who will keep you company when you’re too broke to go out and do anything.

3. You have someone to always make you laugh.

4. You have someone who experiences your day-to-day life.

They know you better than anyone else.

5. You learn how to accommodate someone else.

Knowing how to live cohesively with another human... Trust me people, this isn’t as easy as it seems.

6. You gain incredibly high standards that any other roommate in your life will have to achieve.

7. You gain all of your roommate's friends without having to put in any effort to meet new people.

8. You have someone to binge-watch the new season of your favorite show with.

9. You have someone who will always share their closet with you

10. You have someone who will help you cram for your final at 2 a.m.

11. You get a lifelong friend who has seen you at your worst and loves you anyway.

Once you find this special person, you never want to leave them. It's a best friend, housemate, therapist, personal stylist, and long-lasting relationship all summed up in one person. It's a pretty sweet deal.

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
