In the past week somehow I've managed to do things I've never done before. I’ve been to the emergency room and have been casted from the middle of my bicep all the way down to my wrist. Many would wonder how i was so blessed to be in this position, after a very graceful fall that no one saw I have fractured my elbow and will be in my AWESOME purple cast till August 1st. Since I’ve been in a cast i have noticed some things happen when you are in a cast. So here are 5 things that I have noticed happen while in a cast.
1. The phrase “What happened?”
This has been said to me at least 100 times a day, i have just gone with the easy answer that I fell and I stop talking. It has been asked by the nice girl that takes my dunkin order everyday, friends, family, and just about anyone else. In reality I was getting something from my car at my friends house, I got scared and decided to run in a dead sprint. in flip flops, into a wet garage. Two of my very good friends open the door to find me on the ground crying.
2. The look of pity
The look of passerby with the expression *aw poor you* or *damn it’s the middle of the summer and you have that.* I get it you don’t have to stare I feel like someone taped a big “LOOK AT ME” sign on my forehead.
3. You find out you can barely do anything with one hand
Whether it’s showering, getting dressed, eating, or buckling your seatbelt it is nearly impossible to do things with one hand. I am blessed to be left handed and have hurt my non-dominant arm, but it doesn’t help when the world is made for two hands. One hand means double the time, I have been unable to get dressed without help, huge shout out to my dad for tieing my shoes everyday. The other day I ordered the best pork chops i’ve ever had in my life, but they would have been even better if I could cut them myself.
4. What is going to happen with…?
This has been asked about swimming and school so much. My doctor told me I was going to suck coming back, it’s just another bump in the crazy road to college. I probably won’t start my college swimming career like I would have liked to but with the help of my new coach and teammates the training and PT will go smoothly.
5. Who your true friends are
I’ve been blessed to find out who some of my best friends are, although one decided to leave the country when all this happened. I’ve had friends come pick me up to get me out of the house, straighten my hair, and even wash my hair. These are the type of friends that you would trade for the world. I love you.
