10 Things That Happen When it Starts to Get Cold

The winter is coming, the winter is coming. When fall starts to take a bow and introduce winter to the scene, you know that it is about to get really cold really fast. Not only does it start to get cold, but the days start to get shorter and you catch yourself constantly wondering why you start to see less and less sunlight.

You catch yourself constantly wanting hot coffee

Move over, iced latte, bye-bye passion tea lemonade, it's time for the hot shots to take the stage. Caramel Macchiatos, Vanilla Lattes show your stripes and prove to the public what you can do during times of crisis A.K.A. temperatures below 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

You would rather bundle up in your bed than head to class

This bed...it is so soft and so...warm. During the harsh winter months, it seems nearly impossible and crazy to leave a place that is so warm and inviting. Yeah, sure that lecture is very riveting, but I find this bed much cozier and thought provoking (at least in my dreams).

Layers make a debut

Who doesn't love five coats, jackets, and scarves? Do not get me wrong, I think winter can be fashionable and fun, especially with trendy coats and scarves; however, it starts to be less trendy and more traumatic when you have to put on five to six layers in order to stay warm.

Snow Days become a possibility

Patiently checking your email for hours before the announcement of a snow day is intense. You start to get nervous, anxious, and a cold sweat forms. You want this coveted day off to not only have time to catch up on sleep but maybe finish the assignment you were procrastinating. Playing in the snow wouldn't hurt either.

You catch yourself constantly checking the weather app

What should I wear? Will I be too cold with just a fleece? Is it going to be a cold rain? Do I need a rain jacket too? All these questions can be tough during winter, especially in DC. Some days a fleece will be enough to battle the temperature when other days that'll keep you shivering as you walk from class to class. These winter months, the Weather app becomes your best friend and guides you through life's most important choices.

You realize how much you cherish the fireplace you almost never use unless it's winter

Oh fireplace, oh fireplace, how much I really do love you. You keep me warm all through the night, you make sure I am snug and tight. Oh fireplace, oh fireplace how lovely are your heaters.

You get excited realizing that your favorite holidays are coming up

Thanksgiving, a foodie's favorite day, quickly approaches during this time. You start to get so excited realizing how much amazing food you are about to devour. Just remember, do not eat too much or you will not fit into your favorite Black Friday pants. Christmas is also around the corner! You start to get feelings of excitement as you figure out the beautiful decorations you will adorn on your tree. Hanukkah is a special time was well, and you simply cannot wait to light the menorah and keep the celebration going for 8 days of fun!

You start to play more and more Christmas and Holiday music

Dashing through the snow in a one-horse open... jingle bell jingle bell jingle bell...rocking around the Christmas tree. All of these songs, a conglomerate of Christmas, start to invade through the CVS', Targets and Walmarts of the country. You get excited, you get ready and you get focused. The time has come, so start being merry.

You love ABC FAMILY and appreciate it so much

We want to thank you, ABC FAMILY. Thank you so much for doing the 25 Days of Christmas Movie Special. Without you, we do not know where we would be. Perhaps, lying in bed, depressed, knowing that we did not have 25 glorious days to enjoy Christmas movies on cable tv.

You realize how these months are your favorite months overall for food, fashion and fun

Who doesn't like dressing in a fashionable pea coat or parka? who doesn't like gorging on the best food available during the year? and, finally, who doesn't love dashing through the snow and making the cutest snowmen and snow angels? I will tell you, NO ONE

HAVE GREAT WINTER MONTHS!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
