As the holiday season approaches and finals start to die down, many students begin their travels back to their beloved hometowns. Coming back home from college is filled with many mixed emotions. On one hand, you're excited to finally spend time relaxing with no responsibilities, but on the other hand, you're sad to leave all of your college friends and fun behind for the next couple of weeks. When you come home for break, you find that many things have changed and your hometown will probably feel like a foreign land when you try to navigate it. Here are 10 things that will happen when you go home for break:
1. Your room feels foreign.
When you first walk into your room after break it feels like you're staying in a hotel. You don't remember where everything used to be or where you should put your suitcase. Nothing compares to the first night that you actually sleep in your old bed. You'll probably toss and turn for a while because something just doesn't feel right.
2. You'll most likely gain weight from devouring all of the good food you've missed.
No better way to celebrate finals being over than hitting up all of your favorite hometown restaurants. Bagels for breakfast, pizza for lunch, and a three-course meal for dinner. Not to mention, your mom will most likely spoil you and make you some quality home cooked meals that you've missed.
3. You treat yourself...a lot.
Nails did, hair did, everything did. You just NEED to be reunited with your favorite nail, hair, and eyebrow salon once break rolls around and you definitely don't feel guilty for spending the money. The simple things that were once a normal routine at home are now a luxury to college students everywhere.
4. You make a to-do list before break and accomplish NOTHING on it
Lets be honest with ourselves here for a moment, break will probably be the LAZIEST time of our lives. With the stress of finals officially out of the way, there's no better way than to celebrate by laying in bed all day and watching Netflix. So put down that pen and paper because you won't even glance at that list once you're home.
5. You start to appreciate going away for school.
Being home for a long period of time is both a blessing and a curse. You start to realize how thankful you are that you're not one of those people still stuck in high school and that you branched out and went away to college.
6. You have NO idea how to drive
From the minute you get behind the wheel after break, you already know you're setting yourself up for a disaster. You'll probably blow a couple of stop signs, maybe even a red light. And if you're really bad you'll just go back to having your parents drive you everywhere.
7. You start to remember all of the annoying things that you hated about being home.
All of the annoying things about home start to come back into your life and it sucks. Back to having a curfew and not being able to leave your house whenever you feel like it is the most awful adjustment to deal with after having SO much freedom while away at school.
8. You make plans with everyone and probably only end up seeing the same three people.
"Let's hangout!" a phrase that is echoed throughout the start of break to people that we have had no desire to see since the end of high school. By the end of break you realize how small your circle of friends is and how many broken promises and plans you have with other people.
9. Your wardrobe will consist of sweats from years ago.
Lets be real, you probably didn't fit everything you wanted to in your suitcase and if you did you probably aren't wearing any of it. You'll most likely end up wearing high school sports groufits everyday because you have "nothing" to wear back at home.
10. You have to answer a million questions about college.
"What are your plans after school?" What are you majoring in?" Are you enjoying school?" The questions that are all too familiar to college students everywhere. No, I have no idea what I want to do with my life, but thanks for asking.
