10 Things I Thank My Friends For

We all know how crazy life can be at college. Thankfully, I've found the calm within the storm in my friends. When my life starts spinning off its axis, my friends are always there to put it back into rotation. As the Thanksgiving season quickly arrives, I have started to reflect on the things I am thankful for, and my friends definitely top the list.

1. Thank you for knowing me better than I know myself.

I know it takes a long time to get to know me, but thank you for sticking around and getting to know me anyway. Each of you has dedicated so much time into breaking down my walls to get to know the side of me that not many people know.

2. Thank you for understanding my crazy life.

When I have just too many assignments to do, you always understand that I won't always be around. You even know when I'm too stressed and you provide a way of escape, whether that be with a movie, a dance party, or just your company.

3. Thank you for your advice, even when I don't ask for it.

I'm always thankful for your two cents, and even more thankful that you give it to me whether I ask for it or not. You're never afraid to tell me that I'm in the wrong, and you know that's just what I need. You bring other people's opinions into perspective which is a plus when I'm being selfish.

4. Thank you for understanding that I'm not the emotional type and being OK with that.

Before you, I was called heartless and cold because of my lack of emotion. Many of you are like me though so I guess that makes it easier to relate. Even though I'm not emotional, you know that you can come to me anyway and I'm grateful that you do. Since you know me, you know that I do care deeply about the things you care about.

5. Thank you for making me laugh until my head and stomach hurt.

I don't know how I got lucky enough to have friends that can always make me laugh no matter how crappy I feel. Seriously, y'all are hilarious.

6. Thank you for loving me.

Through it all--the anger, the tears, the rants, and the good times.

7. Thank you for your support.

You often believe in me more than I believe in myself. And the best part is, you're usually right. I know you always have my back in everything, even if it requires going down swinging.

8. Thank you for keeping all of my secrets.

When you're talking to other people in class or at a game and I'm mentioned, you never turn into a waterfall and tell all of the things you know about me. I'm so grateful to be able to trust y'all with my deepest and most personal secrets and parts of me.

9. Thank you for always sharing.

"Our closets" make one great shopping mall and you're always down to loan me clothes and vice versa. You also never complain when I steal your mac and cheese, cheez-its, grandma goodies, drinks, etc.

10. Thank you for knowing when something is wrong with me.

You more than likely know that I don't want to talk about it, but you're OK with that. You do just about everything in your power to cheer me up and show me the brighter side of things.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
