With it being the holiday season, we should all take the time to appreciate the little things if you don’t already. Thankfully, I have boyfriend who always does the little things that matter to me. Honestly, sometimes I don’t give him enough credit. So, here’s 10 things I have to thank him for...

1. Listening to my gossip like he’s one of the girls.

You wouldn’t believe how many times I’ve called him with gossip about people he’s never even heard of. Yet each time, he goes along with it and acts so interested I can’t help but get excited to tell him the latest news. (To be fair, I think sometimes he’s just as excited to hear it.)

2. Feeding me.

This is a simple yet important one, you always know when I’m hungry whether I say it or not. Each time you surprise me with food, it shows how thoughtful you are and I appreciate that more than you will ever know.

3. Being understanding.

I’m not always the easiest person to deal with, but you’re always so patient and understanding, regardless of the situation and that says a lot about you.

4. Treating my dog like he's your own.

All those times you talk to him like he's a child, give him baths and play with him do not go unnoticed. The fact that you know how much Shadow means to me and you treat him so well makes my heart warm and fuzzy every time I think about it. Shadow and I both thank you for that.

5. Being supportive.

Whether it came to picking a college a major, or even a new hobby, you never knocked me down. You always stood beside me and made sure I didn’t fall - figuratively and literally.

6. Telling me what I need to hear, not what I want to hear.

If you felt I was making a bad decision you’d tell me, if you thought my parents were right about something you’d agree with them even if you knew I wouldn’t be happy about it. So thank you for caring enough to go through the trouble.

7. Making me smile when I’m sad.

I love that I can call you when I’m upset and the first thing you’ll do is try to put a smile on my face, whether it be with food, a silly joke or one of your many impressions, you never fail to make me feel better when I’m down.

8. Letting me talk your ears off.

Sometimes I get carried away and can go on and on about everything and anything. Sometimes I’ve had bad weeks and can go on and vent for hours about how bad it was. Each time, you listen with open ears and never complain.

9. Pushing me to do better.

Thank you for pushing me to study, and go above and beyond in whatever I do. Thank you for pushing me to not give up on things I felt were too hard to do.

10. Being my best friend.

Last but certainly not least, thank you for overall being my best friend. Through the good and bad, you’re always there. I can be myself around you and make ugly faces and it still hasn’t scared you off.

I may not always say it, but thank you for being the guy that you are. I’m a really lucky girl. So this one’s for you, Nate, don’t let it go to your head.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
