1) There are actually jobs available
When thousands of people leave town, they leave lots of open positions for you to step in and take! Now it is your turn to rake in the cash to spend on groceries (or not groceries) and other fun stuff. College towns always seem to have interesting and weird jobs too! Now is that time to try out that job you've always wanted, because never again will it be as socially acceptable to work as a roller-skating, hula hooping, waitress who preforms slam poetry in his or her free time.
2) You meet new people
When you continuously run into the same people over and over, you start to actually meet new people and make new friends. You get to know people you wouldn't have necessarily run into any other time because now you have time to actually stop and look around at the people you cross paths with every day! Time to be social (or watch Netflix in your room alone and catch up on sleep, whichever you prefer)!
3) You actually don’t have to wait in long lines to get into restaurants and bars!
Without all of your classmates around, it doesn't actually take forever to get into places! No more planning hours in advance or timing out when your uber should come and pick you up or avoiding certain restaurants during the dinner rush because of their annoyingly long wait times.
4) Your campus looks super huge without thousands of people on it
You never realized how empty campus is without 20,000 extra people on it. You don't have to dodge bicyclists rushing to class, the line for the coffee shop is infinitely shorter, and you don't have the urge to push slow walking people blocking your path because you have room to actually walk around them!
5) Subleasing can be a super great deal
Some people want so desperately to get out of their leases for the summer that there are great deals on places to live! You may even make new friends with some random roommates.
6) It doesn’t take 30 minutes to cross town!
You had no idea it only takes 10 minutes to get to your favorite taco place that, during the school year, takes you eight minutes to get through one stop light. Most importantly, you can actually find parking now!
7) You get to explore the town
There are so many cool places and new spaces to explore when you actually have time to take a step back from school and look around. Go hike that trail, play kid games at the arcade, and explore your town!
8) There are locals in town
When the College kids are away, you suddenly realize how many locals actually live in your town. Where do they all hide during the school year? Do they hibernate? Have there always been this many small children running around?
9) You have free time?
If you are lucky enough to not be taking summer classes, you suddenly find yourself with a significant amount of free time! Even if it is filled with work, there is a freedom about it that you didn't realize you would ever have again as you lay sprawled over your study guides during finals week contemplating the choices you've made in life to get to this point.
10) What do you do with all of this free time?
How exactly does one spend "free time"? How long is an acceptable nap? (The limit does not exist). Should you get a gym membership to fill this void? (No). Is now the time to finally get a puppy to train? (Do you have enough money to feed it and yourself?). How much Netflix is acceptable to watch in a single day? (refer to the answer to question one).
Enjoy your summer break!!!
