10 Things You Realize When You Come Home For Winter Break As Told By Buddy The Elf

Finals are over, and you're back at home for winter break. Whether you're spending every moment cuddled up in bed making progress on a Netflix series or you're playing the 'how much money can i make in a month' game at work, there are some realizations that everyone comes to at some point after coming home from college for the holiday vacation.

1. How terrible your water pressure at school is.

Once you take that first shower back at home, you can help but wonder how the heck you've been surviving all year with those few drops of water you're blessed with in the shower at school.

2. How amazing home cooked meals are.

Sitting down at an actual kitchen table with actual food? What could be better!? You probably forgot how good of a cook mom was, right? There's nothing like a home cooked meal fresh off the stove that you can smell from your bedroom. Plus you're not paying for it, right?

3. How small your hometown is.

If you're like me, coming home to a small town is both a blessing and a curse. Sure, you get to see everyone when you go out, but just remember, that also includes those times you run out for coffee practically still in your pajamas...Basically, no matter where you go, you're bound to run into a familiar face somewhere.

4. How badly you need a job.

Unfortunately your christmas shopping budget and your bank account don't always get along. The fun and games of first semester is now coming back to bite you and you'll do anything you can to make a few bucks.

5. How comfortable your bed at home is.

Even though half your favorite pillows and blankets have found a new home at your bed at school, you totally forgot how amazing your bed at home is and how you have no shame spending hours watching Netflix in it.

6. How much you hate appointments.

With only 1 month at home, you know what that means? You have to get all your appointments done in only a short time. Dentist Monday, Doctors Tuesday, Haircut Wednesday, forget sleep. At this point, you're booked almost every day until you go back to school.

7. How badly you need to work out.

Late nights of eating insomnia cookies and cheesy bread first semester might've caught up with ya, but it's nothing that can't be fixed with some time spent exercising!

8. How much you love your house's Christmas decorations.

Laying on your couch with your christmas tree sparkling beside you and stockings hung up on the fireplace makes you realize there really is no place like home for the holidays.

9. How badly you need to Christmas shop.

With your past few weeks spent crying in the library, you probably haven't spent too much (if any) time thinking about what you're giving this holiday season.

10. How much you actually love winter break.

Now that you're home, the stress is over, and you have a month to do whatever you want, you realize how great winter break actually is and get super excited about it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
