1. CUBAN FOOD.

There is nothing I love more than a big, fat plate of Cuban food. Whether you take a trip to La Carreta or El Rinconcito, you can’t beat the mouth-watering taste of arroz con frijoles in Miami.

2. "Dale, bro."

Whether you’re saying hi or bye, “dale” is the first word and last word you will hear.

-“I’ll be there in 10 minutes.” “Okay, dale bro.”

3. Greeting everyone with a kiss on the cheek.

Whether you’re arriving or leaving, you have to kiss everyone on the cheek as a greeting. But beware- once you leave Miami and you try to greet someone who doesn’t’ know about it with a kiss on the cheek, they’ll think you’re weird. Trust me.

4. Cafecito

Cafecito: Cuban expresso coffee that is meant to take as a shot and bring you back from the dead. Cafecito will have you wired for the entire day until you come back home and take another shot of cafecito. It’s like water to us- we can’t live without it.

5. Going home at 5pm? You'll never make it.

All Miamians know about the dreadful rush hour that blocks up the entire expressway and basically the entire city of Miami starting at 5pm. Just take precautions and stay home between the hours of 5pm-9pm. Take it from me, trust me.

6. "Guy."

“It’s that guy you won’t believe what (insert name here) did yesterday, bro.”

Whether you describe a girl, boy, cat, or dog; guy is the number 1 word Miamians turn to to describe it all.

7. "Que pena."

“Dude, I literally saw my ex boyfriend at the mall the other day and I looked like a papa- que pena, bro.”

8. “Sin pena.”

Sin pena: a term that means you did something with no shame, whatsoever. Even if it is eating a whole entire plate of croquetas, you ate them sin pena.

9. Croquetas

Croquetas is a Miamian’s number 1 survival food. All. The. Time.

10. Pastelitos

Whether you love or hate sweets, pastelitos are just heaven’s creation that Miamian’s can never survive without. Like never, bro.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
