10 Things Only Marketing Majors Will Understand

It's all fun and games until it's presentation day and one of your group members is late.

The basic things that practically all Marketing majors will experience during their time as an undergrad.

1. A shear hatred of math.

There is a reason we are not accounting, finance or math majors. Most marketing majors hate math, myself included.

2. Everyone looks to you for creative ideas.

Like seriously, they just expect you to pull awesome creative ideas out of thin air all the time!

3. Being one of the few people that participate in class discussions in a business core class.

As marketing majors, we're usually pretty outgoing. Therefore, when in a class with awkward anti-social future accountants, finance and econ majors, we're usually the ones keeping the conversation going.

4. Not knowing what you want to do with your degree.

A degree in marketing can open a lot of doors; maybe too many for some. You can go into sales, advertising, PR, market research, brand management, event planning and so many more. I still don't know what I want to do with my degree and I graduated 5 months ago.

5. Constantly talking about and watching food-related ads in class.

It's just so unfair to watch a video on the marketing strategy of Ben and Jerry's ice cream without providing any for the class.

6. Case Studies. So many case studies.

If you have not finished a case study seconds before it was due, are you even a marketing major?

7. Watching Super Bowl commercials as an assignment.

I have a friend that literally got an independent study class credit for analyzing super bowl ads.

8. Group projects that are worth 50% of your grade.

I think I speak for all business majors when I say... group projects suck but you can't avoid them!

9. Color coordination by groups on presentation day.

In marketing it's all about the image you're trying to portray.

10. When your idea gets chosen in a campaign project.

That moment when you're trying not to act like the bad-ass everyone knows you are.

You're pretty much feeling yourself. New haircut, clothes, shoes, everything. New year, new you, right? You're ready for this semester to kick off.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
