Having a guy best friend is something that I never imagined happening. Girl best friends, I mean yes of course, but being best friends with a boy? Elementary me would totally be disappointed and probably say something about boys having "cooties." Although it was something that I never saw happening, it's one of the best things that could've happened to me. My guy best friend has been there for me through everything and I can't imagine anyone else taking his place.

1. People constantly think you're dating.

No, we aren't dating. I know he's in a lot of my Instagram pictures and we hangout a lot, but no we are not dating. Everything your guy best friend does seems to be "romantic" to other people, but you know it's just him being a gentleman. I can't even begin to explain how many times someone has asked me if I'm dating my guy best friend... Nope. Not at all.

2. They gossip with you.

I can always count on my guy best friend to tell me any gossip he's heard, whether it's about people from the town we grew up in or people that we know at other colleges. He will give you all the information you need to know and not even take a moment to hesitate.

3. They will basically act like an older brother.

I don't know how many times I've asked for advice on a guy I was talking to and he'll say "Nope, I've heard of him and I wouldn't go there." He'll pick on you and give you a hard time like an older brother would and of course, you pick on him right back.

4. They are brutally honest.

They are not afraid to tell you when you look terrible. They will tear down your outfit if it's ugly and tell you straight up if your hair looks bad. They aren't afraid to hurt your feelings because they know you would do the same to them.

5. They know all of your secrets.

You tell them just about everything and you know they wouldn't tell a soul. They tell you secrets and you tell them secrets so you know that it's a mutual thing that you have going on.

6. They always have your back.

One thing that I've learned is that they will always be there for you. If you ever need someone to back you up, you know they're there to help.

7. You know way too much about each other.

You know where they live, their family members, their siblings, when they're upset, if they changed their appearance, and even how they act around certain people.

8. Sometimes you find yourselves asking opinions on whether you should ask someone out or what a cute date would be.

9. You might get jealous if they bring around a new friend or another friend that they're close to.

10. They drive you insane, but you wouldn't have it any other way.

Sometimes they just really annoy you and some days you don't know if you can deal with them, but you wouldn't want anyone else to annoy you like they do.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
