10 Things NOT To Do During Finals

Because it’s that time of year again. I know for a fact that I don’t handle finals season in the best way at all. If you want to see a prime example of what not to do during your finals, just look at my lifestyle. I’m literally the worst when it comes to any finals related. So here are 10 things that I recommend not doing during your finals:

1. Pull All-Nighters

It doesn’t seem like it, but they’re super unhealthy. Your body needs the rest. Also, it is said that people who get little to zero sleep in one night are worse off than someone who is intoxicated. Imagine taking your exam drunk.

2. Log on to Netflix

DON’T DO IT AT ALL COSTS!!! When you tell yourself you’ll only watch one episode, that’s the devil talking!!! IT’S NEVER JUST ONE EPISODE.

3. Skip meals

I know that it seems like a good idea. You’re not even hungry, right? So why waste the time? You would much rather use that time to study. W R O N G. Your body needs to replenish itself, like how a car needs more gas after running for a long time.

4. Spend time making a playlist

I’m notorious for spending an unnecessary amount of time making my study playlists on Spotify. I tell myself that I need to pick the right study songs out in order for me to focus, but it is high key another way for me to procrastinate

5. Skip showers

I know that this seems like another time saver, but it’s never a good idea to neglect your hygiene. Plus, you’ll feel more refreshed after coming out of the shower!

6. Party

Because that time you’re using to get “lit” could be used to study and prepare for the upcoming exams and save a ton of stress.

7. Make the study guide the night before the exam

It would be more beneficial to start earlier and have the material ready for review instead of scrambling around to find information.

8. Leave your phone on

I always have my phone on do not disturb or on airplane mode while I’m studying (this is one thing I actually do right) because replying to one text message doesn’t seem to be too much of a time waster but the distractions can build up. Suddenly you’re on Facebook or you’re on Snapchat and all your notes have been forgotten.

9. Overdose on caffeine

A cup of coffee or two is okay, but I know that drinking caffeine throughout the day is NOT a healthy thing. It can actually make you feel worse.

10. Freak out

It’ll only hurt you! You have to be confident that you can get through this! Take a deep breath, remember to eat, remember to sleep, and remember that everything will all be okay!

Good luck on your finals!

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
