10 Things NOT To Do As A Freshmen

You just moved away from home, your friends, your family, but most importantly your comfort zone. Now you're on this huge, never ending campus--but did anyone tell you how to college? No one tells you your back will hurt from carrying your heavy book bag or that this one sidewalk is more slippery in the winter than others. Well, I am here to tell you the general things not to do as a freshmen (unless you want to look like a freshmen).

1. Do not under any circumstances carry a lanyard around your neck. People will point you out and they will know you’re a freshmen.

This is the number one thing for pointing freshmen out. If you have a lanyard that’s totally cool--just don’t wear it around your neck, please.

2. Don’t forget to brush your teeth, it sounds silly but it’s very important.

Personal hygiene is so important in college; you don’t want to sit by the person who smells so don’t be that person either. You may think skipping brushing your teeth this one time will be okay or the one day you didn’t take a shower but once you start doing this it will become a habit and no one needs that.

    3. Do not worry about the freshmen 15, have your fun and learn to love yourself no matter what.

You’re stressed, away from home, and have a meal plan so you might put on a few pounds. If you’re not happy about it, start going to the gym or eating salads once in a while. Either way just accept yourself and love who you are.

4. Don’t carry a purse and a book bag, it will be too much to carry and it's an easy way to lose something.

You don’t want to be that person who loses their ID or room key within the first week so make sure you have your stuff somewhat organized;it’ll help you later on.

5. Do not pretend to be someone you're not. Be you and you’ll find the right friends.

I think a lot of people pretend to be something to try to fit in. However, you’re not going to last long if you're pretending. Just be you and you’ll meet the right people and find the friends you're going to spend the next 4 years with.

6. Do not be that person who leaves the community bathrooms a mess. Everyone will find out it was you. Just don’t do it.

Dorms suck. But we all have to go through it so don’t be that person who makes a mess for everyone else. Community bathrooms are already gross as is so don’t be the jerk in the hall who leaves it a mess because someone will find out it was you.

7. Don’t ignore your family when they call. They just want to check on you and tell you they love you. You’ll need it more than you think, but first, answer the call.

I know college is all about freedom and being away from home and your parents, but they miss you, and I know you miss them even if you won't admit it.So pick up the phone and talk to them just for a few minutes. They just want to make sure you’re doing well.

8. Do not skip class too many times. Every once in a while is okay, but it will become a habit if it's done too much.

This is one perk of college you didn’t have in high school: you can skip class. However, this can be a bad thing to get into as well; too many classes skipped and you won't feel like ever going again.

9. Don’t forget about your high school friends and friends back at home. Group messages are key and so are holiday breaks at home.

Just because you moved away from home and moved on from high school does not mean to just drop your friends. You just spent the last 12 years of school together--that’s a great bond and don’t forget that

10. Always, always, always remember to have fun.

College only happens once so make the best of it. Just don’t be dumb.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
