10 Things All New Servers Will Experience

As a server, you experience so many things in only a few hour shift. You pick up on things that experienced servers don't because they're so used to it. Most of the time, you're overwhelmed and stressed to the max. Here are a few things all new servers experience during their shifts.

1. Thinking "I've totally got this"

Why am I going through all of this training? All I have to do is write this order down and put it in the system...

2. Thinking "I DON'T HAVE THIS"

What is going on???? When did all of these people get here? Why is this order so complicated?

3. Dropping. Everything.

The smell of French Dressing will stick with me forever. That took forever to clean up.

4. Being yelled at for something that isn't your fault.

I'm sorry the kitchen is slow! I really am! I can't make the food myself!

5. Doing math in your head

Especially if your cash register doesn't have a change button. Thankful for the ones who just say "keep the change".

6. Thinking "am I hard of hearing or are these people just quiet?"

I can't count how many times I ask people to repeat what they said. Speak up!

7. Thinking you're messing everything up

TBH you probably are...

8. Asking so many questions. So many.

How do you enter in a deluxe pizza minus onions plus mushrooms minus tomatoes??

9. Trying to be as nice as possible

It's difficult when someone is yelling at you for their order being late. Or their chocolate milk not coming with their meal.

10. Thinking "will this get any easier?"

Hopefully. It has to, right?

Mistakes are something we all make, no matter how old we get. Most of the time, the mistakes we made are little and sometimes due to something out of our control. Yet, there are mistakes that are bigger than others. Personally, I have mistakes that I wish I could go back and undo. Here they are:

5 Things To Do That Are Better Than Writing A Paper

Don't waste your time trying to write that paper when there are so many more interesting things you could be doing.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?

I can barely remember back when I was the only child. Most would say it’s because it is extremely difficult to remember things as a toddler but I would say it's because I was bored until my sister came along. My mother always says how important the "sister bond" is and with every year that passes I realize how right she is. Instead of writing a novel about all of the wonderful things there are about having a sister I decided to list a few of them instead.

It is the time of our lives that we are beginning to enter the adult world and most of us, if not all of us, have no idea what we are doing. It's like starting a video game, but skipping the tutorial. We're all just running around aimlessly hoping we accidentally do something right that moves us along the right path. Now that graduation has just happened, or is right around the corner for some of us, it's time to start thinking about how we are going to take care of ourselves once we are on our own.
