10 Things You Never Knew About Kellyanne Conway

Who even is Trump's most valued advisor?

Regardless of who you voted for, we can all agree that President-Elect Trump’s former campaign advisor and appointed counselor Kellyanne Conway is a rock star in her own right. In just a few short months, she turned around a miserable, doomed-to-fail campaign for the United States’ most infamous misogynist and eventually won him the White House; a task many people from both sides of the aisle deemed impossible from the start. But other than that, the blonde hair, and the SNL skits where Kate McKinnon portrays her as Trump’s overworked b%$*h, this political lioness is extremely ambiguous to the general public.

1. Her parents divorced when she was a toddler and she was subsequently raised by her mother, grandmother, and two aunts.

So at least young Kellyanne didn’t need to be bossed around by men...

2. She’s a pageant queen.

At the age of 16, Conway won the New Jersey Blueberry Princess Pageant. Like you actually thought Trump would hire a woman with no pageant experience!

3. She’s pretty freaking smart.

Conway graduated magna cum laude from George Washington University, studied at Oxford University, was elected to the prestigious honors society Phi Beta Kappa, and holds a law degree with honors from George Washington University.

4. She’s married with four children.

To assume her position as Trump’s counselor, she had to uproot her kids from her native New Jersey to Washington, D.C.

5. In 1995, she founded The Polling Company.

The company also has a separate division called WomanTrend that is devoted to helping Republicans better appeal to female voters.

6. She is by no means inexperienced in the political sphere.

In fact, her resume is pretty impressive. Highlights include working for former VP Dan Quayle and VP-elect Mike Pence and serving as senior advisor on Newt Gingrich’s 2012 presidential campaign.

7. In 2014, she co-authored a memo for pro-immigration group FWD.us.

The memo argued "most Americans don't believe deportation is a viable policy" and that we should instead take steps to legalize illegal immigrants. But I’m willing to put money on her recanting her position given her new boss.

8. She also co-authored the book What Women Really Want: How American Women Are Quietly Erasing Political, Racial, Class, and Religious Lines to Change the Way We Live with Democratic strategist Celinda Lake.

Not only does this show that Conway is capable of crossing the aisle, but according to the book’s Amazon description: “Conway and Lake demonstrate how women are getting what they want and need by rejecting outdated traditions and expectations that no longer fit their reality.”

9. She ran a Ted Cruz Super PAC prior to conducting the Trump Train.

She made the largest personal donation ($5,400) to his campaign in 2015 and said some awfully critical things about Trump.

10. She is the first woman EVER to have successfully run a Republican Presidential Campaign.

Yes, EVER. But if you would rather believe that Olivia Pope is a real person, ignore everything I just said

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
