To start things off, today is my 20th birthday! Since I'm now 20, I must know everything I have to know about life, right? Nope. However, here are 10 things I need to remind myself as I turn 20 that I want to keep important in my life.

1. Cherish the time you spend with my family.

The family might be annoying and might get on your nerves, but that's what family does. Your family is changing and people are moving or getting married or going to college, so spend time with those people before you end up only seeing them at holiday dinners.

2. It's okay to relax, even if you have a million things to do.

Sometimes, all you need is a little break and a step back from things in order to get a clearer view of what's ahead.

3. Remind your little brother about the times you had when you were little.

I send my little brother pictures of things from our childhood and songs we listened to when we were kids, and it never fails to make us smile.

4. Have someone in your life that would do anything for you.

Find that special person who you cherish so much and who you can depend on to be that person for you in your life, and return the favor for them.

5. Don't be too worried about your grades in college.

For me, I never look at my grades. I see what my teacher hands back to me and what I get online, and I know I'm okay. If I started to get concerned, I would talk to my professor about some steps I can take to sportive my grades. I just do my best, because that's all I can do.

6. Do fun things as often as you can!

Take a weekend to get off campus and stay somewhere else with your roommates! Do fun things! Get lost! Make mistakes! You'll learn from them and move on and your life will be okay.

7. Believe in yourself.

Be brave and believe in the choices you make and stand by them. Don't let the opinions of others stand in your way. Don't let what others say make you feel ashamed or discouraged.

8. Practice "adulting".

As hard as it is to be in college and transition from living at home to living on your own and providing for yourself, practice skills you would use in the real world. Start budgeting your money, put some aside for a rainy day, etc. These skills will take practice, but once you get the hang of it, you'll be ready for when it's time to live on your own.

9. Time management!

At this point, I know how to manage my time wisely. For others, it's not as easy. By looking through your week and knowing what needs to get done and taking the time to get things done will help start the skill for becoming better at managing your time. But also take the time to relax, as stated in my second point.

10. Take care of yourself.

Don't forget to take your makeup off at the end of the day, no matter how tired you are. Your face will thank you for it. Eat right, and enough, exercise, relax, play, work, do all the things you love. Keep striving for excellence.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
