10 Things I Miss About Southern California

California is hands down the best state in America! It has beautiful beaches, redwood trees, mountain scenes, Disneyland! It is filled with diversity and magic, great people and even better food. It is a privilege to live there, and a terrible goodbye when you have to leave. I lived in Tustin for two years and San Diego for ten, before venturing off to other parts of the world. Yet that golden state is always in the back of my mind. Here are the top ten things I miss about Southern California.

1) The beaches

The beaches are gorgeous! The sand is soft as butter. The waves are perfect every day for surf, boogie boarding, and body surfing. The sunset is indescribable. The water gets a little cold at times, but you get used to that!

2) The food

You can find any and every kind of food here, and it is all delicious. Some of the best food I have ever had in my life, I ate while in California.

3) In-N-Out

BEST BURGERS EVER! Best fast food ever! Try it and you will love it. And when you get, get it done animal style!

4) Disneyland

Its the happiest place in the world! And so conveniently close. Who doesn't love feeling like a kid again.

5) Old Town

This is a great touristy spot! It has great history, culture, food, shops. They have the best homemade tortillas, and Mexican cuisine! Please the greatest haunted house every!

6) Sea World

This was always great going to as a kid. And despite all of the backlash Sea World gets, its a really great place.

7) The San Diego Zoo

Its seems like every year, every grade, you had to take at least on field trip to the zoo. Every time relatives would come and visit, you would have to bring them also. Even though you know the zoo like the back of your had it was always a fun thing to do, plus the tickets are pretty cheap!

8) California Slang

Its the only place you can call anyone a dude and they don't look at you like your crazy. No one gets made when you say "like" after every couple of words. And things are hella cool.

9) The Weather

Its always sunny, and warm! Rain and snow are disaster weather storms.

10) The People

Outsiders may say that people from California are rude, and different. But when your a local, everyone around you is like a big family. When you leave you can't help but miss every person you ever met while living there.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
