Moving into my first apartment has been quite the experience to say the least. My three friends/roomies and I have been through many of the struggles similar to those of a married couple…and it has only been a week. Nonetheless, I couldn’t love living with them any more than I already do. Here are 10 things I’ve learned in my first week of living in an apartment.
1. Command strips are a joke.
Oh, you wanted to hang those cute canvas paintings on your wall? Think again.
2. Your roommates will see you at your best and worst.
At 10 p.m. when you look hot af, and then at 10 a.m. the next day…yikes.
3. Assembling furniture is hell on earth.
This task will tear friendships apart if you let it.
4. Lean Cuisines are life.
These meals are easy -- not to mention, they're so much better for you than Ramen or Easy Mac.
5. Aldi is also life.
When you’re trying to avoid spending tons of money on produce, hit Aldi up.
6. I now get excited getting homey things.
I spent 30 minutes yesterday smelling wax melts just to find the right one for this season.
7. Wear good walking shoes to class or work.
Your feet will thank you later.
8. Freedom is great.
Being able to cook your own food and not sharing showers with 20 other girls is so nice.
9. Dedicating one day a week to cleaning is a necessity.
The mess definitely builds up over the week.
10. Make friends with the front desk.
So when you have to call them at midnight on a Monday night because you locked yourself out, it will be slightly less awkward.
Overall, apartment life is fantastic. I’m sure I have many things still to learn, but I’m off to a good start. So here’s to making the best of living somewhere new!
