Was there ever a more relatable fictional character than the lovely Princess Mia? As we anxiously await news on whether "The Princess Diaries 3" movie will become a reality, here are a few lessons we learned right alongside Mia Thermopolis on her journey to becoming the queen of Genovia.
1. Confiding in your pet is the best thing to do when you're sad.
Whether royalty-related issues or otherwise, there is nothing a pet can't understand, and we love them for it.
2. Sometimes you just can't escape being awkward.
If you didn't cringe a little bit with the self-recognition upon watching this scene, I envy you. (And if you're like me, you can hear this point of the conversation in your head.)
3. You are a dancing queen.
We may not be able to perform the combination of waltz and tango that Joe introduced (dubbed by Mia as a wango), but when it comes to the dance floor, we've got #skillz.
Don't let anyone tell you differently. *Starts singing "Dancing Queen" by Abba.*
4. Perfection is simply out of reach.
Unfortunately, your grandmother may disagree that sometimes it is okay if you just lose it. She thinks that you're supposed to find it.
5. Getting ready is a very real struggle.
It doesn't matter if you are getting ready for the first day of school, a job interview or the prom, this line always seems to be 100 percent applicable to each case.
6. Flirting is just awkward sometimes.
Some people are really good at it. The rest of us are not.
7. Best friends are the best for a reason.
You know that the Lilly to your Mia will never leave you. She'll be by your side at your graduation, wedding, coronation, whatever. And without a doubt, you'll always be there for her. Because nothing can break the bond between you and your bestie.
8. Having a big heart is never a weakness.
Perhaps one of the biggest lessons we learned from Mia: if your heart is in the right place, then you can do anything.
9. Always listen to those who are older and wiser.
Where would we be without them?
10. Believe in yourself and be brave.
"Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something is more important than fear. The brave may not live forever, but the cautious do not live at all." -Meg Cabot

*Sings the national anthem of Genovia, because yes, we do know the words.*
So, while we hope for the next installment of Mia's story to come to the big screen, remember all the things we learned at Mia's side and the lessons taught in the beautiful land of Genovia.
