11 Reasons You Should Not Visit South Asia

Have you ever heard that people in South Asia are highly unhappy and incredibly poverty stricken? Has it come across your attention that South Asian nations need development whether it comes to their technology, infrastructure, or more? As more and more people go to South Asian nations to conduct research and help those who are impoverished, there grows a global initiative to save these people from their sufferings. There is the idea that not only do these people need to modernize and not allow their old traditions to stifle their development, but there needs to be an entirely new level of change. In India and Bangladesh particularly, we need to address their primitive and unsophisticated cultural and developmental issues that make these people so unhappy. Here are 11 reasons why you should definitely never visit South Asia.

1. People here are so inhospitable

This is because there is "no one" that will insist on you having tea as soon as you enter the home, with offerings of sweets, biscuits, and crackers. There is absolutely no way that your neighbor will lend you some sugar or groceries upon asking for it. No, that definitely never happens here.

2. There is no religious diversity

There is no Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, Sikhism, Paganism, Judaism, Christianity, or Atheist thought. Bangladesh does not have the second largest Muslim pilgrimage gathering in the world, known as Ijtima. There are no cultures or traditions or ancient world heritage sites to be proud of. Oh you have read "Life of Pi"?

3. The ways of dressing are so un-extraordinary

I have never heard of saris, lahengas, dhotis, or salwars. There are different clothes you can wear according to each season? There is a Mumbai Fashion Week? Dhaka Fashion Week? Asif Azim and Lisa Hadyon are some of the top ranked models in the world? These people actually have nice clothes?

4. There is no entertainment scene

Bollywood movies just do not have song and dance, and I never knew that Goa was called the "Ibiza" of South Asia, due to its gorgeous beaches, resorts, and amazing party scenes. Holi, the celebration of colors, is a thing? I thought people in South Asian countries were supposed to be sad.

5. The sports scene is just terrible

I mean, how many times has Indian competed against Australia and won the world cup in cricket? Mabia Akhter from Bangladesh won the gold medal in a major women's weight lifting tournament? Sania Mirza from India is ranked No.1 in women's double tournaments in tennis, currently? Kabbadi is a contact sport invented in India? Wow. The these countries are so underdeveloped when it comes to sports.

6. There are absolutely no ways of meeting people

Dhaka is just such a small city with such a little population and internet cafes, chai cafes, and roadside Punjabi dhabas do not exist at all. These people are so "barbaric" and have no way to grow inter-dependently.

7. The culture is totally not family oriented

It is as if they have to book appointments to speak with their parents all of the time. There are simply no family gatherings and they have no support system whatsoever. Almost in any case, this is the circumstance.

8. The food is just inedible

Oh no, you thought I meant incredible?

9. Unique ancient myths and love stories have no presence or place in the culture

It is not as if I have heard the story of Heer Ranjha, Laila Majnu, Shah Jahan and Mumtaz like a billion times. No the people in these nations do not celebrate love and romance. They are so conservative and it is their tradition that severely stifles them from enjoying the pleasures of modernization.

10. Everyone here speaks the same language and it is just so boring

Only 400 languages? That is an insanely small number of languages you can possibly learn in a few tiny countries.

11. There is no way you can make money here. I mean, everyone is super poor right? Income inequality is huge right?

There is no way you can make it big. Bangalore is not known as the Silicon Valley of India.

So the next time you wish to travel, do not rule South Asia away immediately!

Sorority

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
