There comes that time leading up to your freshman year of college, you're so ready to leave home, excited for the adventure thats before you and you can't wait to be on your own. You get moved into your first apartment or dorm and yeah you're a little nervous but you're mostly excited. Freedom to do whatever you want, and the feeling of independence...but living on your own isn't all its cracked up to be sometimes. These are the things I learned when I first moved away from home and I'm sure you will too.

1. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Just because you can stay out all night, seven days a week, doesn't mean you should. Just because you can have donuts every day for breakfast doesn't mean you should.

2. Empty Fridge #college isn't actually that fun.

When you're living off of Ramen noodles for a week it's really not fun. Be smart, budget your groceries.

3. You'll miss your parents.

Trust me when I say this, you will miss them! You may be thinking, "no way, I'll just call them or FaceTime, it'll be fine." Trust me, there's going to come a day when you're so stressed out and all you want is your parents there.

4. You actually have to clean.

Not just pick up after yourself, I mean clean. Disinfect, sweep, mop, etc.

5. Doing your own laundry sucks.

Seriously, I accidentally turned all my t-shirts pink the first time I did laundry in my apartment.

6. You'll appreciate a home cooked meal.

Even if you cook for yourself its very different than having your mom or dad make it for you.

7. The first time you get sick will feel 10x worse.

Because your mom isn't there to nurse you back to health.

8. You have to learn to take responsibility.

No one is going to be telling you to wash the dishes, wake up for class, clean your room, set a doctor's appointment. That all now falls on you, it's your responsibility.

9. You'll learn so much.

Not just how to do laundry and how to cook, but you'll learn a lot about yourself.

10. It'll be the best time of your life.

Even though it'll get hard sometimes just remember, it's the start of adulthood and the start of your independence, have fun!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
