10 Things You Will Learn As A Freshman In College

College is a scary transition in your life. You're being thrown into a new environment with people you don't know and possibly a town you've never spent a good amount of time in. But once you get adjusted and find friends, it will get a lot easier. But there are some things you'll learn along the way...

1. Yes, the dining hall food sucks, but it's all you got so get used to it.

No one wants to eat at the dining hall, but when you're a broke college student you have to. Always go for something that the lunch ladies didn't have to make, like a bagel or cereal.

2. You don't have to go out every weekend.

Yes, you're in college now and there are parties every weekend, but they get tiring after a while. A good movie night with a couple of girlfriends is always a go to on a Friday night.

3. You don't have to like your roommate to respect them.

Your first best friend on campus will be your roommate. But I've watched roommates drift apart and move out with each other, but that doesn't mean you can't respect them anymore. Or even if you are in a room with someone you don't like, you still need to respect their wishes and your living environment will be so much better for the both of you.

4. Do not procrastinate!

Yes, high school was a simpler time where you could wait until the class before to do your homework and still get full credit! But college is a lot different and you need to get your work done asap!

5. Be organized

If you have a day planner with all of your assignments and committee events in there you will never get behind!

6. ALWAYS wear shower shoes.

It doesn't matter how clean the shower looks, it's not clean. Wear shoes!!

7. Be more adventurous.

Find friends who will go on random adventures with you, whether it's to go get your nose pierced, hike a mountain, or even just to Target!

8. Be honest with everyone around you.

Everyone in college is an adult (even though some may not act like it), and people nowadays would rather take the truth than listen to a lie. If you don't like what someone is doing, tell them!

9. Play a sport!

If you are able to play a sport in college, then why not? It gives you instant best friends and people to hang out with almost every day. Also, these are the best days of our lives so why not stay in shape!

10. You will find out who your real friends are from your hometown.

Every one of your friends is most likely headed off to a different school, town, and even state, but the real friends will FaceTime you almost every day and text you about every day life.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
