10 Things You Know If You Are Almost Done With The School Year

1. The Work Load

For some unknown reason, every professor waits to do three chapters, give two tests not including the final, and four papers. But it's okay, it's not like we have any other classes...

2. The Lack of Ambition

Well, seems like that paper is not getting done, nor is that project due to the amount of available time, but I will make time for this nap I so desperately need.

3. Your Stress Level Seems To Surpass Your Limits

With all the meetings, classwork, and athletics, on a scale of one to ten, the stress level is a flat one hundred. The only thing keeping you from going insane is when you get to treat yourself to that twenty minute shower.

4. Every Night Is Basically An All-Nighter

You end up reading the same sentence three times, but still think it's a smart idea to keep doing the work that will have to be redone anyways.

5. Midnight Wawa Trips Are the Only Thing Keeping You Going

Always thankful for Natalie for taking me to get a bagel and slushy just so I can make it through the night. But, for real, without Wawa, most of us would crash and burn in college.

6. That Day Your Body Finally Crashes

You're going strong, and you're on about day four, maybe day five, who really knows? But then, you get this burst of energy for about twenty minutes, then all of a sudden, you can't keep your eyes open or lift a finger. Yeah, your body has reached its breaking point.

7. Finals Week Is So Bittersweet

Because thanks to your wonderful professors, you have a math final, history final and English final all in the same day. I see what you are trying to do, professors. You're trying to drive me crazy. Well, let me tell you... it's working.

8. You Can't Wait To Go Home

You get to go home, sleep in your bigger bed, see all your old friends you kept in contact with, see their families that you are basically a part of and you get to see your family. You get to go back to the place where you grew your roots and remember all the good things there are about it.

9. But You Don't Want to Leave

You have finally adjusted to your surroundings you now call home, made so many friends you are used to seeing every day, and you have all the memories in your first dorm room. This is your new life, your freedom, and better yet, your place. Nothing will ever compare to living on your own for the first time ever.

10. You Don't Know How To Survive Without Your Friends

I have no clue how I'm going to make it a couple of months without seeing all of my people every day. But that is what trips are for, I guess...

A Few Thoughts Every College Freshman Has

The transition into adulthood is never easy

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
