Happy Independence Day!

Independence Day is definitely a day to celebrate in the United States! It’s filled with parties, firework shows and red, white and blue events. It’s so much fun! If you’re looking for fun things to do this year, this would be my top 10.

1. Go see fireworks – Fireworks are probably the number one attraction on July 4. For as long as I remember, I’ve watched the beautiful colors light up the night sky. I love finding different firework shows to see who has the best finale! This is a definite tradition anyone should be in to.

2. Have a cookout – Grilling out hamburgers and hotdogs are another tradition people seem to have! It’s an obvious tradition too because who doesn’t love a good burger with chips on the side?

3. Have a bonfire – Roasting marshmallows and making s’mores just sounds yummy!

4. Hang out with friends and family – This one is pretty self-explanatory!

5. Make this DIY drink - I made these drinks a couple years back and let me tell you, they are delicious! This photo is one of the drinks I made for my family, everyone loved them.

Here’s what I used to create these adorable drinks:

- Clear glasses to put the drinks in.

- G2 Blue Gatorade.

- Cran-Apple Juice by Ocean Spray.

- Sobe Pina Colada.

- Ice.

First, you want to fill whatever glass or cups you have full of ice. When I say full, I mean to the brim. I’ve noticed that the ice helps the drink colors separate better. Then, pour in the Cran-Apple Juice! Fill up the cup 1/3 of a way full. Next, pour in the Pina Colada! Pour it slowly onto the ice, so it doesn’t mix with the Cran-Apple too bad. Then is the G2 Gatorade. You want to make sure it isn’t just PowerAde or regular Gatorade because it won’t work correctly. Pour the G2 Gatorade softly like the Pina Colada. Then you’re done! It’s that easy, it looks cute, and it tastes amazing!

6. Make these treats to go with them – Chocolate strawberries are always so good and now, you can make them red, white, and blue!

Here’s what you’ll need:

- A bowl of as many fresh strawberries as you want.

- A bowl of white melting chocolate.

- A bowl of blue sparkly sugar, blue edible glitter, or blue sprinkles (blue sugar is shown in the picture!).

- A cookie sheet or plate.

- Toothpicks.

First, you’re going to want to heat the white chocolate in a microwave or stove! Then stick the toothpicks into the strawberries. Dip the strawberry into the melted white chocolate about a third of the way to the top. You want the red from the strawberry to show! Next, dip the strawberry into the blue sparkly sugar. Set them on the plate or cookie sheet when you finish dipping! After letting the strawberries set for about 5 minutes, you can pull the toothpicks out! Now to eat!

If you’re looking for something a bit easier, there’s a patriotic Chex Mix!

Here’s everything you’ll need:

- Corn Chex.

- Pretzels.

- Mini marshmallows.

- Popcorn.

- Red and blue M&Ms (you can just separate them from the other M&M colors if you can’t find just red and blue).

- Big bowl to mix it all in.

First, you’ll need to pop the popcorn. Pour the popcorn into a bowl. Then pour pretzels on top of the popcorn! Next is the marshmallows and Corn Chex! Then just mix it all together! The proportions as well as the order you put the food in the bowl is up to you! It doesn’t really matter on order since you mix it up anyway! After mixing all these items, add in the M&Ms. They’re heavier so you don’t want them falling to the bottom of the bowl. Make sure to mix these in lightly! Then you’re done! If you’d like, you can always drizzle white chocolate over the Chex Mix too. This will give it more of a sweet flavor!

7. Dress in the American flag – It’s always fun to find flag shirts and shorts! What better way than to wear them on July 4th to show your national pride? Plus, the clothes are usually cute so you can be stylish while patriotic!

8. Go to a Parade – Parades are so much fun because you can watch different floats and people walk by! There are so many colors, it’s hard to hate parades. Unless, of course, you don't like crowds of people! In that case, I'd recommend doing something other than a parade!

9. Go to a baseball game – Baseball games are always fun; even more fun when fireworks end the night off after your favorite baseball team wins the game!

10. Have a pool day – It’s already hot enough in July, so a dip in the pool is always needed! It's nice to have a cookout or hang out with family and friends by the pool! This can be any water really! My family is hanging out on the lake this fourth of July, so that's fun too!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
