10 Things I've Learned In Life So Far

No one actually knows what the heck they're doing.

For as long as I can remember, I've never had anything figured out. The unknown is one of my biggest fears, but thankfully, I can take some of my past experiences and help me turn the "unknown" into the "maybe I know this". So, here's a few things I've learned in life so far:

1. Your Happiness Depends On YOU

Not your best friend. Not your boyfriend. Not your parents. But you. You are the only person that can truly make you happy. You know what you truly want from life anyways, right?

2. Not Everyone Will Stay In Your Life Forever

People leave. Whether it's your fault or not, they will leave. It's a matter of life, and a sucky one at that. However, it doesn't always have to be a bad thing. Sometimes people leaving can remove most, if not, all the toxicity in your life. This can bring you a step closer to happiness.

3. Perfection Does Not Exist

I spent most of my life trying to figure this one out. I always thought if a word exists then obviously it's real, but this is not the case. Perfection is a made up standard that everyone tries to reach, however, perfection is an opinion, so one person's opinion or idea of perfection may be different from the next. Total, absolute perfection is not real.

4. Mental Health Is Extremely Important

Mental health is super important to your physical health, and overall wellbeing. No one wants grey hair in their 30s, or headaches on the daily. Go ahead and light some candles, put on some music, take a nap, etc. Do whatever you have to do to unwind and slow your brain.

5. You Really Don't Need Those Shoes

Maybe this one is just me.

6. Quit Hanging On To The Past

The past is the past for a reason. Hanging on to it will only make you hurt worse.

7. You Can't Make Friends With Everyone

As much as you want to be, or try to be, that social butterfly, you will always have people who don't like you.

8. Don't Spend Every Day Trying To Make People Like You

It's not worth it. You can't please everyone, so don't even waste your time trying.

9. Appreciate The Little Things

Time flies, so be sure to appreciate the little things in life. Sometimes smaller acts speak louder words than you think they do. Put your phone down. Be in the moment and appreciate it.

10. We're All Lost And Confused

As far as I've seen, no one actually knows what the heck they're doing; they just pretend like they know and hope no one notices. So, next time you're stressed out about something, just remember that everyone is just as confused about life as you are. Whether it be deciding on a major, or how to do your taxes for the first time, someone has been there before.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
