Here are some things and trends that I'm just really not thankful for this year. Majority are trends which I've tried to get with and they just didn’t work for me. Some are things I just couldn’t understand. If you’re thankful for some of the things listed, keep being thankful for them and don’t let my opinion of them change or offend yours. These things can’t work for everyone but if they work for you, carry on!
1. Choker necklaces
Why couldn't we have just left these in the 90's? I tried to wear a few of them but they just looked weird on me. I wasn’t comfortable feeling choked the whole day… yeah I know they’re called chokers. Some are super cute, they just weren’t working for me.
2. Jesus sandals making a comeback
Sorry if you love your Jesus sandals! I just don't know what the craze is about them... especially when people wear socks with them. I couldn’t find them comfortable at all and they just looked plain weird on me. If you can pull them off, keep working them!
3. The popular dances that majority of people know how to do
Yes, I’m talking about the Dab, the Whip, etc. I, along with many people that I know, just can’t seem to pull these dances off. It always results in people laughing hysterically and saying, "never do that again". The songs are super catchy, maybe I’d be more thankful for them if I was coordinated enough to successfully do them!
4. High-waisted shorts/jeans
Yeah, I still wear high-waisted shorts and jeans even though sometimes I absolutely hate them. I can’t pull them off what-so-ever, but sometimes I just want to feel like I can. It’s super hard to find ones that fit correctly and it’s also super hard to find tops that look good with them!
5. Boho style clothes
Okay, so I’m super thankful for how cute these clothes are. I’m just not thankful for how hard it is to pull them off or for how expensive they are. Every once in a while I find something that fits and is flattering, but it’s extremely rare and it usually is just too expensive!
6. Stores having sales at random time
I’m pretty much becoming broke because of random sales happening all the time! I appreciate it once in a while but my wallet doesn’t!
7. How everyone on Instagram considers themselves a photographer/model
I'm sorry but just because you own a nice camera, doesn’t mean you’re a professional photographer. Nor does it mean that you know how to properly use it. This is something I can't stand because a lot of people are just about the followers and the likes rather than the business Instagram can bring to them.
8. Being told I spend too much time on technology
I’m constantly hearing this from my family members and even my professors. I know I spend a lot of time on my phone, computer, iPad, and everything else. It has gotten to the point where I can’t control it. Majority of my school work is on my computer, if you think that we have too much “screen time” then give us some classic pen-on-paper work or don’t require us to have our textbooks online.
9. Everything being pumpkin spice
I’m a fan of pumpkin flavoring but it has just gone way over the top. Has pumpkin become the new coconut?
10. Netflix removing things after adding a bunch of new stuff
I get excited every time Netflix adds new things... until I realize that they have removed some of my favorite shows/movies. I want to watch new things but sometimes I also want to watch my favorites, like Legally Blonde!
So you’ve read 10 things I’m not thankful for these year, but I promise I’m not completely negative! Here are 5 things I’m thankful for in general:
1. Technology
I know, what young person isn’t thankful for their phone or computer? I’m just thankful for all the doors it has opened for me. I really enjoy being able to just pull out my phone when I need to know something or any other time that it comes in handy.
2. Pets
Even if you don’t have any, you must be at least thankful for your friends or relatives’ pets. Pets are the best thing in the world and they’re always there when you need them. Unless you’re away at college without them… like me.
3. Freedom of speech
Without my freedom of speech, I probably wouldn’t be able to write this article. It might be a little offensive but I’m trying my hardest to not let it be. Just because I’m not thankful for something or don’t entirely agree with it doesn’t mean I’m frowning down on anyone that feels the opposite!
4. Good friends
It allows you to not be thankful for things together! It also allows you to be thankful and not thankful for different things without judgement.
5. Food
Who doesn’t appreciate food? There are so many options and so many things making it impossible to not like at least one type of it. One of the best things about Thanksgiving is for sure the food!
