10 Things I Would Rather Spend Money On Than Textbooks

Here comes another quarter of money going to all the wrong things.

Let's face it. School is great, education is awesome, and having a degree is pretty useful; But the amount of money that goes into every single textbook required or highly recommended, is a little ridiculous. While trying to find the cheapest books (17 this quarter, woot!) so that I wouldn't spend $600, I finally compiled the books in my amazon cart, and got away with a steal of only $417, instead of the $655 I had started at. I stared at the number for minutes - it seemed like hours to be honest, finally I clicked place order and started to cry a little inside at all the things I could have spent that money on, instead of 17 textbooks.

1. A day at the Spa

I love my spa, and with $417, I could have gotten a full body massage, pedicure, manicure, infrared sauna treatment, hair cut and color, and so much more.

2. Can you say Lush?

I am kind of, sort of, like totally obsessed with Lush and allllll the bathbombs. I could easily spend money in this store. Easily, like with no hesitation.

3. The Home Decor of Modcloth

Shopping for the home is one of my favorite things to do, I cannot wait to have my own apartment and furnish it with all the little perfect items that I find on places like Modcloth. $417 wouldn't get me very far, but it would be a great start!

4. 12 inch of memory foam

It's a bed, of foam, that you can fall into, and never get up. It's snuggle security, and it's pretty cheap! Plus with the leftover money, you could even buy new sheets!

5. Starbucks

Need I say more?

6. David's Tea

Sticking with the beverages, I love love love David's Tea, and would spend all my money there, if I never had to worry about things like bills and textbooks. And there Winter Collection is honestly to die for, Candy Cane Crush, Santa's Secret, and cute little snowy mountain mugs! Ahh, can I just live at David's Tea?

7. Books that I actually want to read

I have over 1000 books in my personal library, and I feel like I could have so many more. Reading is an escape for some people, and that means you can never ever have enough books.

8. Shopping on the Internet's Mall

Some of the things I have found, are pretty cool; Others are ridiculous. However, I'm sure anyone could spend $417 on this site, easily.

9. Non-stop flight To San Francisco, First Class, from Seattle

Spring Break trips seem so easy to book now, if only I hadn't had to spend $417 on textbooks; Sorry California, maybe next year?

10. Chacos

I could own so many pairs of Chacos. They're comfortable, you can hike with them, they can go in the water ( I snorkeled with mine on ), and they're so pretty! I think I would seriously rather have two or three new pairs of Chacos than 17 textbooks.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
