Even if you’ve only known your roommate for three months, they probably know just as much about you as your closest friends do back home. From move-in day to finals week, a lot will go on and here are 10 things to thank my new roomie for.
1. Putting up with my messiness.
Thank you for not caring that my side of the room looks like an absolute disaster. My bed is never made and there’s a good chance I left a pizza box sitting on top of the garbage, but thankfully you don’t care. That’s probably because your side is just as bad. It is definitely something to bond over.
2. Putting up with my cleaning sprees.
Occasionally I decide to clean and when that happens I go hardcore neat freak. Everything from my sock drawer to the mini fridge gets organized. Thank you for just letting me do me and not questioning why I’m sweeping for the third time.
3. Never judging how fast I go through seasons on Netflix.
You will most likely come back to the room every day and see me in the same spot you left me in, just five episodes of "The Office" later. Thank you for not judging how much time I spend watching my shows and acknowledging that even though I am usually procrastinating, I do work hard sometimes.
4. Talking me through mental breakdowns.
There’s a good chance that out of the blue I’ll remember all of my responsibilities and start freaking out. There might be a little bit of hyperventilating and maybe a few tears here and there. Thank you for talking me through it and making me understand that I will get it all done, even if I have to pull an all-nighter.
5. Not minding when I bring friends back to the room.
Whether it’s my boyfriend or my other friends, you always have a smile on your face and welcome them in (unless you’re napping). You never complain and that makes you an awesome person.
6. Eating with me.
The first week of freshman year can be scary. The worst part is probably not knowing who to eat with. Thank you for sitting with me for three meals a day so I wouldn’t have to go to the dining hall and eat alone, which apparently is not a weird thing after all.
7. Letting me borrow your clothes.
It’s great to know that when I need something to match my outfit you’ll be there for me. Thanks for lending me that cardigan. Don’t worry you’ll get it back and if I decide to do laundry this week I’ll even clean it for you.
8. Listening to me vent.
Whether it is about my professors or an annoying girl in my class, you’re always there to listen to me vent. You’re on my side no matter what I’m complaining about and most of the time you even feel the same way.
9. Accepting my weirdness.
I have never shared a room with anyone in my entire life. I’m used to doing whatever I want without worry who sees. Thank you for not questioning the amount of times I burp a day or why every single bone in my body cracks unintentionally.
10. Being one of my first friends.
This one is the most important. Thank you for being nice to me. Thank you for not giving me a reason to have “roommate horror stories” to tell my friends back home. Even if we aren’t super close, I have your back and I know you have mine. Perfect roommates do exist.
