Here is a list of things I learned from my dad, lessons that I will keep with me forever:

It’s okay to be assertive.

My dad taught me that it’s okay to take charge of a situation if I had to, to not let anyone walk over me.

Have fun, but don’t be stupid.

Back in the day when my dad didn’t have social media (thank God), my dad and his buddies had some fun and crazy times. But never too crazy!

Work hard.

Work hard, play hard!

Cherish your loved ones, leave the fakes behind.

You do not need anyone in your life that isn’t going to be there for you. Your loved ones are not here forever, so love them hard.

Bring strays in, and love them.

My dad loves animals so much. So much, that the animals always pick him as his favorite! Probably because he changed their life forever. You’ll love that mutt until the day that you die.

Take care of your car!

Enough said.

Your education is important, so make the most of it.

After all, school is expensive! Give it your all.

Learn from your mistakes.

I’ve known for a long time that nobody is perfect. Even my dad. What makes us better people is knowing that and wanting to be better, by learning from where we went wrong.

Enjoy the little things in life.

Enjoy the nice weather, the ice cold beer, brand new jeans, fried catfish, your favorite songs. It makes life so much better.

I’m blessed to have a loving father.

I am grateful for everything my father has done and given me. I have such a great role model in my life who I also get to call my dad. Knowing he’s there for me whenever warms my heart.

Happy Father's Day to my dad and to all the other dads out there!

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
