10 Things You Never Got to Thank Your High School Best Friend For.

Going away to college can be tough but I think the hardest part is saying goodbye to your high school best friend. Of course you both promise each other to stay in touch and you promise to visit each other all the time, but we all know that more times than not, life happens. You get caught up in school work, maybe you make some new friends and even traveling from one school to another can be a huge pain. Even though you may not see each other as much as you planned or even talk to each other as much as you would like, you know that they will always be your best friend. So here are 10 things that I would like to thank my high school best friend for:

1. Thank you for living through the awkward stages with me.

Between our awkward first selfies or the days when we thought extremely thick eyeliner was in style, you were always there right next to me. I have the pictures to prove it, so don't try to deny it. ;)

2. Thank you for always pigging out with me.

Whether it was a late night run to Nick's Roast Beef to get some mozzarella sticks or even grabbing a McFlurry at McDonald's, I knew you would always be down for the trip.

3. Thank you for being there for me, no matter what time.

I could always count on you to listen to me vent whether it was 11:00 pm or 3:00 am.

4. Thank you for being there for me through every heartbreak.

Sorry, there were so many. Boys suck.

5. Thank you for never holding a grudge.

From spending so much time together, we knew exactly how the other worked. Of course, we were bound to fight sometimes. So thank you for never staying mad at me for more than four hours.

6. Thank you for being my go-to concert friend.

There is no one else I would rather be belting my heart out to songs on the way to concerts, during concerts, and on the way home from concerts.

7. Thank you for opening up your family to me.

The fact that I can just open your front door and sit on the couch with your dog and no one in the house will think twice of it is so awesome. Being your best friend not only gained me you but it gained me another set of parents, another dog to love, and three more brothers to argue with.

8. Thank you for being boy crazy (very boy crazy at that).

Most people probably would have gotten annoyed by your constant change in boy taste or being forced to go to sporting events that they weren't interested in, but not me. I knew there would never be a dull day with you, so thank you for giving me something to look forward to.

9. Thank you for the laughs.

If anyone was going to give me a rockin' body with a six pack from laughing, it would definitely be you. I can always count on you to make me laugh no matter what.

10. And lastly, thank you for being my best friend.

Even though we go to different colleges now and sometimes I ignore your texts (sorry, I love you), I know that what we have can never be changed. You have been there with me through so much and I know that no matter what you will be there. Plus I know too much now so you can't get rid of me. ;)

Love your forever high school best friend,

Kendra

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
