Winter break can be summed up with one quote from a Charles Dickens novel, "A Tale of Two Cities". “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,” it states. While being home for winter break has it’s pros, such as eating home cooked meals instead of cafeteria food, seeing your family and turning off your alarm clocks, it also has it’s cons. You can’t walk into your friend’s room, you’re being supervised by your parents again, and the worst of all: you’re separated from your best friends. All my best friends from college live in different states than me, (except for one) and even though they aren’t that far, during the holidays it can be hard to travel. So not seeing your friends for four weeks, you go a little crazy. Here are 10 things you’ll more than likely do when you’re missing your friends over winter break.

1. You send them about 15 texts and Snapchats telling them how much you miss them.

2. Your FaceTime sessions last well over an hour and even after you’ve run out of things to talk about you just make weird faces for an extra 30 minutes.

3. You calculate exactly how long it would take you to drive/walk/bus to each other’s house.

4. When your family asks how your friends are doing and just by hearing their name it makes you wanna burst into tears because your life seems so meaningless without them.

5. Your Facebook timeline becomes mostly links that they’ve sent to you.

6. Even when you’re out with other friends and family back home you can’t help but think how much fun you and your college BFFs would be having if they were with you too.

7. You tell stories of you and your college BFFs and nobody thinks they’re funny. That’s when you realize most your stories are those “I guess you had to be there” moments and you suddenly crave your friend’s presence so you can laugh together.

8. You have to start sending screenshot beyond screenshot of any conversation you need help in because they are physically not there to tell you what to say.

9. You Snapchat each other when you’re in each other’s states and it’s always followed by “what time you gettin here” followed by silent tears because you’re probably going to see your family.

10. When you look at your calendar and realize break is just a couple days from ending you text them saying how much you can’t wait to see them and how excited you are.

The first two weeks of classes have come to an end and they have been anything BUT easy. It seems like life has been serving up more bad than good and in all honesty, the only thing you want to do is crawl under your covers and hide from the rest of the world.

Although this seems like the best solution, it is also the easy way out. Take it from the girl who took basically a whole week off from her life because she just could not handle everything that was being thrown at her. This caused her to feel extremely lonely and even more stressed out for being behind in classes that JUST began.

Brooke Davis

"She was fiercely independent, Brooke Davis. Brilliant, and beautiful, and brave. In two years she had grown more than anyone I had ever known. Brooke Davis is going to change the world someday, and I'm not sure she even knows it." - Lucas Scott, An Unkindness of Ravens

Brooke Davis of the hit show One Tree Hill was the it girl - she had it all, or so we thought. She started out as a stuck-up, shallow, spoiled, head cheerleader who didn't have her life together. She slept around a lot and loved to party - sounds like your typical high school teenager right? Wrong. B. Davis had so much more to offer. Caring, loyal, and outspoken, she has taught us some valuable lessons throughout the 9 seasons that OTH was on the air:

We all have a person, and when that person makes some new friends, we tend to forget all the great things that can come out of it. Never forget how special they are to you and why you are best friends.
