Having a best friend is easy, but having a best friend who lives far away is not. Even though they're always there whenever you need them, it's tough to have the peanut butter to your jelly not with you. There are special struggles that come along with your best friend being separated from you. Love may know no distance or see state lines, but you sure do.

1. Reunions are basically Christmas.

You can’t sleep the night before. You wake up entirely too early the day of. There’s laughing, crying, happiness, lots of sweets and sometimes even real gifts!

2. You have to send care packages in lieu of showing up with Kleenex, ice cream, soup and a movie.

It’s hard anytime you know your BFF is going through a hard time, it’s even harder when you can’t do anything about it because there are hundreds or thousands of miles between you.

3. Your text messages mostly consist of screenshots and their analyses.

Your BFF is your #1 Gossip-Go-To, and always has top-notch advice on what to reply to who. She’s also your text message analyzer.

4. You pretend to not be jealous when they post photos and statuses about their local friends.

Because you aren’t. You’re not. You’re not jealous at all. No, not a smidge. It’s awesome. You’re happy. They look…..cool.
Oh god. They look cool. Do you think they’re funnier? What if they’re more fun to be around.

5. You’ve cancelled outings with your local friends to FaceTime your LDBFF.

To spare any feelings, you go with the good ole “I’m not feeling well.” It’s not a lie. You have a combination of homesickness and heartsickness. Plus, FaceTime is the only way you get to "hangout" with your BFF anymore.

6. You have to refrain from asking to be Skyped into every major event in their life because you really want to be there.

It really doesn’t matter what that major life event is – a concert, a party, a presentation -- it's not weird to Skype in on a date. (You HAVE to prove if he’s going to be your BFF’s bae.)

7. Goodbyes are hard.

Like, really hard. Your heart breaks apart and a piece of it is left with your BFF. You’d think it gets easier but you’re pretty sure they’re only getting harder with time.

8. You miss them the very second that they leave, and you already get anxious about the next time you get to see each other.

"In a perfect world, this could never happen.
In a perfect world, you'd still be here.
I used to think that I was strong
Until the day it all went wrong
I think I need a miracle to make it through
yeah
I wish that I could bring you back
I wish that I could turn back time"

9. You get to fall back in love with your town.

There really is something so special about being able to see your town through a strangers’ eyes. You get to play tour guide for your BFF and show them all the cool spots-- and maybe you’re trying to play up how cool your city is because you’re not-so-secretly trying to convince them they should move here, too.
If your BFF left you in your hometown, it’s really nice to relive glory days and play into your nostalgia!

10. You miss them more than anything all the time and it's really hard.

You wish you hadn’t taken living in the same town for granted because it was actually pretty magical and you’d kill to have them in the same place with you all the time. It does however make the time you DO get to spend with them very special, and you try to always make the most of visits.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.
