10 Things "Grey's Anatomy" Has Taught You

If you haven't seen Grey's Anatomy, you're seriously missing out. It is without a doubt one of the realest shows you've ever watched. Sure, there may be a lot of seasons and you think ,"Who has time for all that, don't you get bored of it?" but you are oh-so-very wrong. There is drama, tragedy, love, life problems, problems with bosses, awkward situations, people trying to figure out who their parents are (weird, right?) and literally every stressful life situation you have ever encountered. The show captures truth, honestly and the brutal reality of life. So my friends, here are some words to live by.

1. How to be strong.
Everyone can agree that Christina is head of all things hardcore. She's unstoppable and pursues anything and everything she wants. She's brutally honest and won't cut corners to spare your feelings, but she's the kind of friend that everyone needs in their lives. She taught us what it means to actually go after what you want and how to knock down any other competition. Even when she hits a rough patch she comes out strong in the end.

2. To never give up no matter what.
As this is a doctor-type show I guess this idea is pretty self explanatory. As doctors they are bound to an oath that means they will exhaust every power they have in order to save a life, but this also constantly spills over into their personal lives. They don't give up on love, no matter how painful the situation is, they don't give up on getting accepted to programs or internships and they certainly don't give up on each other.

3. To always be honest.
There are so many ways to bend the truth about what you're feeling or what actually happened. Grey's so beautifully teaches us that if you want anyone else to attempt to understand what's going on with you, you have to be 100 percent honest with them. No one is a mind reader, no matter how much we wish this to be true sometimes. Talking about your feelings is hard, but every character in the show learns that being honest is the only way to go about anything.

4. That your friends are your chosen family. Always.
That's all there is to it. The feeling it is to be someone's person is indescribable.

5. That you should hold onto people who are important.
There are going to be so many people who come into and leave your life at different times who teach you many things. We either have to choose to listen to them, learn from them, devote time to them, or show them that we care. There isn't a point in life where you'll just stop meeting people who can have an impact on you. Everyone impacts your life no matter how small or how big.

6. To find the small wins in the midst of the big losses.
We often times get bogged down with all the things that are going wrong in our lives and forget to see the small little things that mean so much.

7. That it's not always going to be perfect.
It's true, life just sucks sometimes. However, it's all about perspective. There isn't anything that you can't overcome. Just do as Meredith says and "put one foot in front of the other." All things get better with time.

8. To guard your heart.
This stands as one of the hardest things to do, but you have to remember that it's okay to put yourself and your happiness over how someone makes you feel. Sometimes you're going to have to let go, and that's okay.

9. Love hard when you find someone worth loving.
When there is someone worth loving, love them hard and with everything you have. Don't throw yourself at someone; instead use your head and don't let your feelings get the best of you. There is a time to let your heart lead the way, but make sure that your head and heart match up.

10. To never hesitate to do something life changing.
Ever. The time to thrive is while we're young. Take advantage of not being tied down and having the ability to go anywhere and do anything.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

winter

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
