I've been with Tractor Supply Company since May, and I've learned a lot since starting with the company, but I've also noticed that there are some phrases I hear every shift. I live in the south and in a small town with lots of farmers and there are just some southern traditions that won't ever die.
1. Are there any men here?
Sometimes we have an all female staff... they wouldn't leave us here "all alone" if we weren't capable of handling it, I promise.
2. Are you sure you can get that?
I've been at work for the past 3 hours doing this exact thing before you walked in, so yes, I have it.
3. Ask customer if they need help, and they say no and then go to the register seeking male assistance.
Well at least he tried to be polite and do it indirectly, too bad for him I'm the help he's getting.
4. "It's just a southern thing"
Part of me wants say "oh yes, give me a break, thank you!" and the other part of me wants to say "It's my job, they wouldn't have given it to me if I couldn't do it."
5. "Wow"
Totally shocked you are actually capable of lifting a 50 pound bag of feed.
6. "You must be a farm girl!"
What gave it away? The fact that I work at tractor supply and not the mall? Or was it my truck?
7. "That truck is yours?!"
YES.
8. When you ask if they have any questions and they quickly look around and then ask for a manager.
I've learned 9 times out of 10 they really just wanted to talk to a man.
9. "A little girl like you shouldn't be doing this."
This is my personal favorite because I'm not "'little," I'm actually average. Thank you.
10. People are shocked you can answer their questions.
Yes, I'm not just here to look pretty, I can help you!
11. No matter what kind of day you're having when a dog walks in you are instantly having the best day.
"May I pet your dog?"
