10 Things You Know to Be True If You're Friends with Your Brother's Girlfriend
Alex Stroh

Being friends with your brother's girlfriend is a pretty special. It's a unique relationship that comes with a surprising amount of benefits! If you're not already friends with your brother's girlfriend, I recommend you become friends right away.

1. People think you are weird

Most of the time when your brother is dating someone, siblings don't really care all that much. It's just another person, another friend. So when you explain how close you are with your brother's girlfriend, people get confused and give you odd looks. Kind of like Ryan Gosling.

2. No topic is off limits

She is such a part of your life that you just can't help telling her everything - even if you really shouldn't. She is dating your brother after all.

3. You fight over who gets to see her

When she comes over to the house both you and your brother want to see her. So you kind of just throw her in the middle and play tug of war. Then when he plays the boyfriend card, you throw your best Michelle Tanner pout face.

4. She gives the best advice

Friends and family give great advice, but they can only understand your perspective so much. Since she's in both categories she understands what you are going through that much better. After your talks, you feel better and get back to smiling like Blair and Serena.

5. Sometimes you forget she's dating your brother

You consider her to be your friend before anything else, so it always takes you a second to remember when he throws his arm around her shoulder. When it comes to their relationship, you become a little like Dory and forget everything.

6. Family events are so much more fun

She comes to everything, family suppers, vacations, birthday parties, whatever, you name it - she's there. She's goes to all the places that normally regular friends wouldn't be invited to. So when you're on the dance floor at your cousins wedding you get to go over and shake it with your bff/brother's girlfriend.

7. She understands your fights with your brother

Siblings were put on this earth to fight. It's what they do. Brother's girlfriends were put on this earth to understand. It's what they do. She completely gets it when you say he's getting on your nerves. Nevertheless, you both love him more than anything.

8. You know your brother has a good one

When you have a sibling you want nothing more than their happiness - even if all you do is constantly pick on them. Being friends with who they are dating gives you the opportunity to see how great of a person they are.

9. Explaining your friendship is lengthy and awkward

Sometimes people ask how you know each other and then the game of 20 questions begins. Her? Yeah, that's my brother's girlfriend. Yes, she's my friend too. No, it's not weird. No really, it's not that weird. Situations like this just make you want to go a little Kim Kardashian.

10. She's much more than your brother's girlfriend

If they broke up tomorrow, you would still talk to her. She's way more to you than a random girl that your brother is with. She's family. No matter what, you know she'll always be there. She's the Christina to your Meredith. She's your person.

Friends and family are the two greatest things you can have in life. Your brother's girlfriend is the beautiful embodiment of both of those things. She's pretty dang great.

I'll never forget the day that someone told me these words: "Madison, I think you're a good friend to everyone but yourself." I stood there completely in awe of that statement.
