10 Things To Thank Your Freshman Year Best Friend For

They were by your side through everything freshman year could throw at you — and for that, you're endlessly grateful.

Freshman year is scary. The stream of advice on how to make and keep friends is endless: Make as many friends as possible. Not everyone will get your sense of humor. Don't be antisocial. Have fun. Not too much fun. Be cool. Be yourself. Be the coolest version of yourself. It's enough to be compiled into a three-volume book called "Friendly College Advice from your Entire Family and That Waitress: How to Do College in 87 Easy Steps, the Unapologetically Unfiltered Edition."

But some of us were lucky enough to have found someone even through the barrage of advice from family. We found someone who made freshman year infinitely more bearable, and a heck of a lot less terrifying. That first-year-of-college friendship that formed and stuck almost without either of you realizing it might just be the most important one you'll make throughout college. It's why your freshman-year best friend deserves a million thank-yous (but 10 will have to do for now).

1. For knowing you like the back of their hand.

Or the front of their hand. Whichever side they know better. They somehow always know when something's wrong and can pick up on the slightest cues. Then thank them for bugging you about it until you cry and tell them what's wrong.

2. For not letting you go after they met you.

This is even as other people's friend groups shifted throughout freshman year. Thank them for being your ride-or-die person from the very beginning.

3. For being proud of you when you eat a pint of ice cream all by yourself.

That or any other ridiculous amount of junk food. Then suggesting other junk food to make you feel better about eating the first junk food. Then finally admitting, "We should work out."

4. For giving the most eloquent pep talks and life advice anyone has ever given in the history of ever.

Like, so good you wonder if they've been a motivational speaker / therapist / dictionary in a past life.

5. For looking out for you like they were your second mom and threatening anybody who hurts you with serious bodily harm.

Thank them for always having your back and telling you to look both ways before crossing the street.

6. For sitting with you when you cried harder than you could ever remember.

They're there wiping away your tears, and telling you everything will be OK.

7. For texting you all the time.

Sometimes you even text when you guys are in the same room, because it's just weird when you haven't talked to them in more than an hour. (Also thank them for those texts they send that make you laugh so hard everyone looks at you funny.)

8. For being so, so weird.

For talking in accents. For snorting when they laugh. For dancing like they don't care how awkward they look. For making you feel just a little bit cooler than them.

9. For actually being the "cool one," anyway.

Also, for always being more effortlessly put together than you'll ever be. For making you feel just a little bit cooler by knowing them.

10. For loving you unconditionally, and for being your go-to person through everything freshman year had to throw at you.

"Thank you" might not ever be enough to let them knw how grateful you are they stuck by you through it all.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.
