It's so easy to get caught up in the negative, to find yourself so exhausted at the end of the day from all the stress and running around that you can't seem to find the positive in a single situation. We all do it at some point. We all go to bed at night thinking about all the things that have gone wrong and all the things we wish we would have done differently, instead of the positives of each day and the positives that are going to continue to come. By following these 10 steps, you will find yourself thinking positive more times than not!
1. Wake up with a positive outlook on your day.
Do not roll out of bed moaning and groaning about how early it is or all the things you have to do that day, be glad that you have woken up and that you are blessed to spend yet another day on this Earth.
2. Dress to impress as much as possible.
I'm not here to tell you it's easy or that I roll out of bed every morning with the intention of looking my best, but the old saying "look good, feel good" really does have some truth behind it.
3. Instead of getting angry or upset when someone accomplishes a task before you, use it as motivation to do better, be better, and work harder.
4. Continue to maintain a positive attitude throughout your day.
Walk into each class with a smile on your face.
5. Say hi to everyone you see.
There is a rule I like to follow called the 20-10-5 rule. When passing someone in the hallway, at 20 feet, you should acknowledge the person is there, at 10 feet you should establish eye contact, and at 5 feel, you should greet them. Making someone else smile with this simple rule will help bring a smile to your face as well.
6. When you're feeling down, force a physical smile on your face.
There are studies that show that smiling actually increases the positive chemicals in your brain, ultimately boosting your mood.
7. Make yourself lists and check things off throughout the day.
It's easy to feel down and out of it when you're flustered or overwhelmed with work that needs to get done. Accomplishing things and physically seeing your list get smaller can help.
8. Find a way to relax before bedtime.
Whether it be yoga, a hot shower, or your favorite tv show, unwinding at the end of the day can make for a much better night of rest.
9. Rely on the people around you to build you up and get rid of the ones who are always tearing you down.
Surrounding yourself with positive people increases the positive vibes in your life, which will in turn help you to establish a positive attitude.
10. Remind yourself that it's okay to have off days.
We can't all be on our game 100% of the time and that's okay. Knowing that your off days do not carry on with you throughout the rest of the week is important. Go to bed at the end of an off day knowing that tomorrow will be better, that there is always room for improvement, and that one bad day does not define you.
