10 things every retail associate understands:
- You have your favorite customers. They are the ones who will let others go in front of them just so they can get you as their cashier. These are also the customers you make sure receives every coupon out there so they get the best deal.
- You have those customers you hate. They are the ones who ask every little question—trying to do your job for you. You hope that they don't have any coupons and pay the highest price. Most importantly, they forget that you're human too.
- Always constantly having to ask customers if they are part of the stores loyalty program or have a credit card with the store—which cues an aggressive “NO” from the customer and you regretting asking them in the first place.
- The never ending line. Those days where your store has a crazy sale, all you hear yourself saying every five minutes or so is“ did you find everything okay?”
- Those last minute shoppers. These are the customers who think that they can walk in two minutes before closing, having nothing but their own self interest in mind. The idea that the associates cannot go home until they are done shopping does not even cross their mind.
- The idea of having a weekend off is unimaginable half the time. You have to plans months ahead, begging co-workers if they can work your weekend shift.
- When a customer tries to return merchandise that has clearly been used before. You smile, take it, give them your money back and hope karma gets to them.
- There is nothing better than when a customer yells at you for their mistakes. Whether it be them missing the coupon dates or them having a bad day because the jeans they tired on are too small, they will take out all their frustrations on you. Its okay, just smile and curse them out internally.
- Soon enough you will realize that there are so many people from all different walks of life and personalities that shop at your store. You will encounter people who are so tragic that they make you question their everyday life.
- Lastly, at the end of your day you tend to love your job. You love making customers happy and hope that they had a positive experience during that shopping trip.
