Coming from a typical public school graduate where rules were strict and the only "life lessons" taught were to not plagiarize and to not be late for class, college is a whole new universe. But there are a few things to keep in mind for those who haven't actually experienced it yet.
1. The work load isn't as bad as I thought.
You will get a few classes where they are completely crazy, but for the most part, besides studying, I have said "Sayonara!" to assigned homework.
2. You don't go to the same classes every day.
Most classes will be Monday, Wednesday or Tuesday, Thursday and sometimes there's a Friday one too.
3. You get to make your own schedule.
Not a morning person? Evening classes for the win!
4. Talk to your professor and make yourself known.
This will help you get a good grade if you're barely hanging on at some point.
5. It's okay if you have to miss class.
YOU pay THEM to teach you. It's totally on you if you miss and most professors could care less if you miss because they're getting paid regardless. This isn't a free pass to skip every day buuuuuuuut.... did someone say lunch with a friend instead of history class????
6. STUDY FOR EXAMS!!
Exams can make or break your final grade, believe me, I know.
7. YOU CAN WEAR WHATEVER YOU WANT.
BREAKING NEWS: Guys don't go crazy about your shoulders, ladies! AND you can wear shorts??!!!! Literally, no one cares, because what really is the point in worrying about that?
8. Take time to hang out in the student center or something and make new friends!
It's always a blast to just chill with my group of people in the student center.
9. DON'T EVER EVER EVER TAKE SOMEONE ELSE'S "UN"ASSIGNED SEAT!!!
Seriously, don't do it. Pick your seat, and stay there.
10. Enjoy every second!
We're only getting older from here and this time in our lives will be what defines our futures! Make the best of it!
