Hello everyone! This week I've decided to dedicate my blog post to all of my friends who are starting college this upcoming fall. I won't spare you the long intro on what this is about...it's kind of just a few guidelines that I learned during my freshman year. So without further adieu, here are a few things you'll want to know if you're just starting college.

1. Don't date during your first year.

This is probably one of those things that a lot of people were told before they came into college. Your first year is hectic enough. You're figuring yourself out. You're learning about who you are as an independent human being. Make sure that you focus on yourself your first year. It's important.

2. Not everyone you meet will be your best friend.

You will meet a lot of different people. You will be a part of a lot of different friend groups. These groups do not define you. These people may come and go. Some will stay. Hold on to those people.

3. Never turn down an adventure.

Adventure? Yes. This ranges from late night McDonald's runs to random trips into the city for cookies. Unless you have a REALLY good excuse or this adventure is illegal, go. You'll have a good time.

4. Don't forget to make time for yourself.

This is something I learned during my spring semester. I was so drained because I was making time for everyone except for myself. You matter, and sometimes alone time is what you need to recuperate from a week long of assignments and adventures.

5. Don't forget to make time for God.

Even more important than making time for yourself...make time for God. Trust me, time with God is never wasted.

6. Write things down.

Write down everything. You'll be surprised how scatter-brained you can and will become. Even if you're someone who remembers everything, write it down. You'll thank yourself later.

7. If you can, get that assignment done early.

This is another thing you'll thank yourself for later. I know, in high school, you can get it done the night before and you'll be fine...and yeah, it's totally possible to do that in college too...but I promise you that you'll hate yourself for it.

8. Sleep is a gift.

Do not take this gift for granted.

9. Free food is also a gift.

It's hard because nobody wants to gain the Freshman 15...but free food is never something to turn down when you're at college.

10. Enjoy your time.

It gets stressful, and it gets hard. Lots of things happen during your first year. Don't let that ruin your time in college. Get your work done, hang out with your friends, try new things, and make memories. You'll look back a year from now and see how much things have changed for the better. It's scary at first, but take that step in. It's worth it.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

winter

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
