Wishful Thinking To Survive Finals Week!

Wishful Thinking To Survive Finals Week!

1. SLEEP

Everyone knows that during finals week sleep is limited. Whether you are up studying the whole night, or just procrastinating. Chances are you are lacking sleep.

2. A BLACKOUT

There are way too many opportunities to procrastinate with all of the electronics out there. If you are on your computer all you have to do is switch tabs and then you will get sucked into the pinterest hole... or worse FACEBOOK. Instead you decide to venture off into the lounge, no distractions there right? Two hours later you are downstairs turning the xbox controller back in because you just could not resist. A blackout would be perfect to help you study and knock out a bunch of procrastinating methods but unfortunately with all of our textbooks being online now a days that would not be impossible.

3. COFFEE

Maybe it's from the lack of sleep or just the newly aquired addiction to caffeine but this is an absolute must. There is just something wrong with a finals week without coffee. It would be like not having turkey on Thanksgiving. (for those who celebrate it) It's just unheard of. Too bad we are all college students and broke. We can afford a cup here and there, especially at the begining of the semester if we recieved a refund, but during finals we are low on money and definitely can't afford five grande mochas a day from Starbucks to support our coffee addiction.

4. MORE SLEEP

We are still young. It is a known fact that the younger you are the more sleep you need. We are working our way into real adulthood and starting to sleep less but eight to nine hours is still a must. Especially when you have a very crucial exam at nine in the morning that you absolutely cannot do poorly on.

5. TIME

( Loud outrageous laugh) Who am I kidding? Of course we need more time. Trying to study every single thing you learned from the beginning of the semester until now for tests that are all in the same week. On top of studying you still have to show up to class and learn even more course content. If only there was some way to freeze time so we can study!

6. SNOW

For those of us that live in areas that normally see snow in December it would be great if it would show up sometime before the semester ends. Snow is not only pretty once in a while when you don't have to go out in it or occasionally fun to go sledding in and have snowball fights, but it is also a great way to keep you inside with your head in a book. Sometimes studying in the warmth of your bedroom while looking through the window to see the beautiful white wonderland outside is just more appealing than looking out at an empty courtyard with trees that have already lost their leaves. It prevents you from wanting to leave and go do something else other than studying. (unless you want to play in the snow, but that can count double as a stress-relief and study because once or twice outside is probably enough for you!)

7. TECHNICAL ISSUES WITH NETFLIX

This isn't a list of things we want to happen just things we need. If there was an award for biggest procrastination method college students use, Netflix would be number one by a long shot. It all started inoccently browsing different genres of tv shows and movies so that you can watch something while you study. Next thing you know you have lost your textbook in your covers and you are almost finished with season three of your new favorite show. Now you have to finish the series because there are too many cliff hangers. This could all be resolved if you weren't able to get on the website that we all love. Just for finals though... There is absolutely no way we could live more than a week without our favorite souce for televised entertainment. It's college. Haha

8. AN EMPTY ROOM

Sometimes the worst thing a person could do to themselves is study in their room. You have absolutely everything you need in there to focus your time on something other than studying. Whether it's books, movies, game systems, or even just a strong will to reorganize your room every so often, it would be a much better investment to relocate to a place with no distractions. Theoretically if your room was just emptied it would be perfect, but you live there. That cannot happen. (Maybe find one at the library if they all arent already taken.)

9. PLAYLIST FULL OF NON-STIMULATING MUSIC

Many people prefer to have a little bit of noise while studying or doing homework. A lot of times people resort to music. Though it is perfectly reasonable sometimes it has a negative affect on studying. When you are studying and some of your favorite tunes come on it will most likely distract you. I know I can't just sit there calm and quiet when my jam comes on. That is why non-stimulating music is your answer. Most likely you are not going to put on music you've never heard before but be warned they do have study music on youtube and it can help a great deal.

10. EVERYONE TO LEAVE YOU ALONE

We all have that one friend, or even worse, roommate that will never stop talking. They walk in and ask what you are doing and you tell them you are studying thinking they will go away. Next thing you know they are pulling up a chair to have a three hour conversation about their trip to the nail salon. Even after you've told them you need to focus they just will not stop talking. After you finally get them to leave you get a phone call either from your mom, dad, grandparents, siblings, maybe one right after another. When you are busy everyone has to get ahold of you. That's just the way it works. If there was someway to clue people in it would be helpful.

P.S. I've tried turning off the lights like in grade school. I guess it doesn't work for adults!

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
