10 Things Every College Student Misses From Home

If you're a college student, you love your school, and you could not wait to get out of your house. August seemed to drag on forever. But a few weeks into the semester you're feeling a little homesick and missing some important things at home.

1. Home-cooked meals.

Meal plans get real old real fast. Sure you might have a kitchen in your dorm, and you could easily cook yourself something, but it's just not the same as eating Grandma's meatballs and having it served to you.

2. Not having to do your own laundry.

If you're like me your mom kindly did your laundry at home for you. Now you have to lug your heavy basket down the hall to the community laundry room where there's never a washer or dryer open, then have to remember you're doing your laundry so that no one takes it out and puts it on top of the machine. Rude.

3. Your family.

You miss being able to have the comfort of your family whenever you want. As much as you wanted to run to school to be with your friends, not being around for family dinners or outings is starting to get to you. Calling and texting them when you need them just isn't the same, and Mom not taking care of you when you're sick is hard.

4. Your friends from home.

Sadly you couldn't pack your friends and take them to college with you. Sure you have your school friends who you adore, but you and your home friends have a different type of relationship. Luckily, you'll have them to welcome you home when you go back.

5. Showering without flip flops.

At home you don't have to worry about the weird things that could potentially grow on your feet if you showered without shower shoes on.

6. Your pet.

You don't have your furry companion to cuddle or play with when you're feeling down and bored. But you 100 percent know when you go home, they will be extremely excited to see you, and also Mom has been texting you hundreds of pictures of your pet.

7. Your room and your bed.

Of course your dorm is probably decorated beautifully, but it's just not the same as your room at home. Your bed at home is your safe haven, the dorm beds are just not cutting it.

8. Quiet.

There will never be totally quiet in your dorm. There is always someone who is awake and making noise, no matter the day or the time. You miss home when everyone went to sleep at a normal time, and everyone actually respected your sleep schedule or when you needed to do work.

9. Your town.

It's hard to figure out your way around a new town, especially if you don't have a car. You miss your favorite little spots, the familiar places and knowing where everything is.

10. Not having any work to do.

Even though you were ready to head back to school, you miss having so much free time and not having any homework or papers.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
